Ok - I was surprised to hear it ran after sitting for who knows how many years.

My Ride: A car.
Got myself a BDay present finally, picked up a watch that I couldn't afford normally but the company folded (because of too high prices when the economy went to ****, lol) so I got it at a pretty deep discount.

I need recommendations for a new wrist band for this MK chronograph. It comes with a rubber that is so annoying and pulls my hair and doesn't fit well on my wrist. Looking for a nice black (or other color options even) leather or other types of fabric (sorry the name escapes me right now).... any help!?

Not 100% certain, but it looks like that strap is notched at the top to fit the narrow lugs that are unique to that watch. If this is the case, it will be nearly impossible to find another strap that fits short of going custom. Maybe someone else can chime in on this, but I had the same issue when I had my Oris Williams F1 and never ended up finding another strap for it.

I noticed this as well. I was hoping that I would be able to find the same notched style band... Damn.

All,

I would like to find a new watch. The current watch I have is great. I love the simple face desgin, thin profile, and small face/footprint. Are there watchmakers who are still doing this type of design. I would considering buying a more expensive watch as something I can hopefully pass down.

Thanks!

I'd check out the Hamilton Timeless Classics line.

Thinomatic

Intra-matic (available in a 38mm or 42mm)

Valiant auto

EDIT: I'd also throw Oris into the mix...

Oris Classic Date Auto

If your budget is $1000, Oris makes a great watch. Having said that, if you want something you can "pass down" you will have to spend a little more.

What are some other possibilities?

You know what, I've been looking around, and I've noticed that watch prices (thanks to a pretty sh!tty dollar) have been steadily rising. Hell, even a "bone stock" Omega Seamaster is pushing 4K now. Most of the watches today that are in the $1000 range are designer watches (ie Gucci, Michael Kors, Kenneth Cole, etc.) To me they are a waste. They tell time, but they are more jewelry, and not really a quality watch. I'll keep looking around for some deals, but I think Oris is as good as it's gonna get (which is very nice BTW) for $1000 and under.

For instance, something like this is $1780.

$1600-$1700 range

$1200

Etc etc etc. You want my honest advice? Don't spend $1000 on a watch. It's not enough to get anything that is really a nice watch, and too much for mediocre dress jewelry watches. Wait until you can afford to spend the money on a really nice watch (near the 2K area) that you like, rather that try and fit the luxury item into your budget. Buy something nice to hold you over, and then get what you really like.

Grab something like this (or even cheaper) and wait until you're ready to drop a bit more money. This is classy, inexpensive, and should last for quite some time.
