So, the story of the Omega got my father thinking - he remembered he has a vintage Longines Wittnaur (see below). It's from 1957, 14k gold filled, manual wind.

He's never really worn it, it's obviously still in the original box. He wound it up today and it's running fine. I've done some searching through images online and I haven't seen a match. The ones that look close don't look like they have a lot of value.

Any clue?

Wittnauer's were bought by Longines. Good watches back in the era your watch was made but at a lower price-point than the parent company's watches.

Currently owned by Bulova which is owned by Citizen. Not as well regarded now.

Ok - I was surprised to hear it ran after sitting for who knows how many years.

My Ride: A car.
Got myself a BDay present finally, picked up a watch that I couldn't afford normally but the company folded (because of too high prices when the economy went to ****, lol) so I got it at a pretty deep discount.
Wyler Geneve Code-R Automatic Chrono LE.

I need recommendations for a new wrist band for this MK chronograph. It comes with a rubber that is so annoying and pulls my hair and doesn't fit well on my wrist. Looking for a nice black (or other color options even) leather or other types of fabric (sorry the name escapes me right now).... any help!?

Not 100% certain, but it looks like that strap is notched at the top to fit the narrow lugs that are unique to that watch. If this is the case, it will be nearly impossible to find another strap that fits short of going custom. Maybe someone else can chime in on this, but I had the same issue when I had my Oris Williams F1 and never ended up finding another strap for it.

I noticed this as well. I was hoping that I would be able to find the same notched style band... Damn.

All,

I would like to find a new watch. The current watch I have is great. I love the simple face desgin, thin profile, and small face/footprint. Are there watchmakers who are still doing this type of design. I would considering buying a more expensive watch as something I can hopefully pass down.

Thanks!

I'd check out the Hamilton Timeless Classics line.

Thinomatic

Intra-matic (available in a 38mm or 42mm)

Valiant auto

EDIT: I'd also throw Oris into the mix...

Oris Classic Date Auto

If your budget is $1000, Oris makes a great watch. Having said that, if you want something you can "pass down" you will have to spend a little more.
