Just bought a Yugoslavian SKS

Just picked up a Yugoslavian SKS today, has the usual bayonet and grenade launcher on it. It seems to be very clean and well oiled but im just worried about it slam firing because of the floating firing pin it has, and the gun does have some cosmoline on it that they didnt fully get off, so it will be a week or so before i get to shoot it since im going to disassemble and clean every part of the gun. Might refinish the stock, but still unsure about it.

This rifle doesnt have a chromed bore so what would you guys suggest that i would need to do differently to keep it clean? especially after firing corrosive ammo.

I would recommend that you get some Slip2000 products. Get the CarbonKiller or 725 Cleaner/Degreaser to spray in there and get rid of the corrosive chemicals. Soak a patch with 725 or CarbonKiller, run it down the bore, let it sit for a few, then run a couple dry patches through and you're done. You can have that sucker cleaned in under 10 minutes. Then a light coating of normal Slip2000 lube for storage and shooting since SKS and AK rifles don't need much lube. Seriously, the only cleaning stuff you'll ever need ever again (short of copper solvent).

Edit: The easy poor man's way is to flush the weapon with hot water and then blast it out with air. This will flush out the corrosive chemicals pretty effectively. You can either use a shower wand attachment and use hot water, or just the shower itself with as hot of water as you can get. That, or just fill a pitcher of water with uber-hot water and dump it down a couple times.
Once done, clean as normal.
