Question Erratic idling and knockin on gearing down

BMW 2004 318I SPORTS PACK - The valve stem seals was done and the "top" was put back again, after that there was an erratic idling and there was a knockin/kicking sound coming from the back of the car when the car is gearing down when slowing down. The diagnostic showed the following possible causes for the problem.
VALVETRONIC, ADJUSTMENT RANGE
CODING IS ABSENCE
OUTLET VANOS
Then I took it to another work shop, where I was told it could not be the Valvetronic system but the timing of the engine is way out and was adjusted, beautiful job was done. The engine still idles a bit erratic and the "kick" on gearing down still there. So I believe the next step would be to check the computer box and and valve tronic.
Any other ideas?
