Can you ID this part?

Why is there always a part left over?

I just changed the spark plugs (another thank you to the forum, for great DIY instructions). This morning, my wife took the car, and I found this piece on the floor. Could be completely unrelated to the work. Could be from something other than the e46, I suppose. The timing makes me think it is from the car, from the spark plug change. Before I rip everything apart, looking for a home for it, I thought I would see if anyone can ID it.

It's soft rubber, and had some oil on it. If I had to guess, I suspect it might go on the underside of the engine cover.

That is the plastic that goes on the corner of your valve cover plastic cover.
I'm talking about the cover with BIG BMW written on it.

The corver that you need to remove to get to spark plugs. (( goes to the corner of it))

That's what I thought. I just wanted to confirm, before I started taking things apart. Thanks for the help.
