Advice needed...Thump noise when pressing the gas pedal and releasing.

2001 330CI Manual

Notice this yesterday....more noticeable in high speeds.

Im going about 50mph...i press the gas pedal down to accelerate hard and when I let it go i can hear and feel a thumping sound like something is hitting...its coming from the front of the car...feels like the clutch or transmission is hitting something. Im leaning more towards it being a clutch problem cause if I press the gas pedal down to accelerate hard and at the same time I press the clutch down and let go of the gas nothing happens.

Any ideas what It could be?

If you are flooring it and just letting go of the clutch, it could be the shock of the everything and the engine/tranny bouncing around due to tranny mounts or engine mounts.

I would check the engine mounts. this was happening to me but much worse than you described. I went to check my engine mounts, the drivers side had torn apart, fell out, and was just resting on the aluminum plate! I couldnt believe it
