Where to get high end sunglasses at a discount?

Hey gents-

Been looking to pick up a high-end pair of Mauis. These things retail for like $320 and while I'm used to buying oakleys, these are really a bit out of my comfort zone. I'll probably pay retail, but would prefer to get them a bit cheaper.

Any thoughts on where you can get these cheaper, preferably from a retailer that is authentic and not sketchy?

Having trouble deciding between the gunmetal and silver frames, but leaning toward the gunmetal.

I have purchases several pairs off ebay. Yes, they are real.
As a matter of fact, I have sent many pairs to Maui Jim directly for repair, lenses swapped, etc.

I paid about $100 less than retail plus no tax.

They're expensive because they're some of the best lenses you can buy and have a lifetime warranty. I've yet to hear of anyone having their warranty request denied, no matter how the glasses were damaged or how old they were.

I can not remember the specifics, (probably posted on here) but I sent like 6 pairs of Maui Jim Kahunas to them without any receipts. I had lenses changed out (black to rose), frames all bent up, temple guards nasty, etc.

It cost me like $150 and they sent back all my glasses looked brand new, new cases, and two pairs WERE BRAND NEW REPLACEMENTS.

I could not believe it. I have like 8 pairs of them and some are still new in box.

I never had Mauis, but my experience with eBay sunglasses is that they are usually fakes. Very close fakes. Sellers will have 99% or 100% feedback. Probably bought by people who can't afford the real ones so they don't have a good basis of comparison. I wouldn't risk my money on eBay personally.

I've had friends do the same thing. No receipt, no idea how old the glasses were, and I know at least one sent back the frame in two pieces and every time Maui Jim sends a new pair back. As long as you're ok with the style and you don't lose them you're essentially buying a lifetime pair of glasses for a few hundred dollars.

Here is a thread I created in 2008...

I sent 4 pairs and $90-$100 and received 2-3 new pairs and the rest were perfect.

I completely disagree with you. Sunglasses have a ton of gross margin, it is easy to find real ones at a large discount.

It all depends on the seller.

Of course on ebay, it always depends on the seller. But I will say: there are a ton of fakes on there, and some are made so well, you will not be able to tell unless you own the real ones to compare and are very thorough. Even then, you may not be able to tell.

I bought a pair of Cartier's on there and won an auction at an incredible price. Normally these sunglasses go for $600+ new, are going for $900 on ebay for authentics, and I ended up winning an auction for under $200. I thought I just got lucky with the auction.

The guy sent them from somewhere in Canada, and as soon as I opened them up, I knew they were fake. It was an impressive fake, and came with certificates, box, cloths, but fake nonetheless. It even had Cartier micro emblems inside the nosepieces, on the stems, and embossed in the lens. That is serious attention to detail from these replica companies. If I didn't own a pair of real ones to compare, I may not know the difference.

You will find real ones on ebay, but if the discount sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Not saying it is impossible, but you have to know that sellers also have to factor in 13% for ebay/paypal fees + shipping costs. Where are they getting that incredible deal from where they can still make a profit on the sunglasses?

Yeah, I know. I'll have to check ebay. I did purchase a pair of Oakleys on there a while ago, but they were used and were definitely authentic. Discontinued model and all.

I'm really skeptical about ebay in a lot of ways though, especially on something like this.

Only reason I ask this question at all is because I know loads of online retailers sell high end watches at a discount and are authentic. Figured I'd see if something like that existed for sunglasses.

Yeah, I know, and the fact that the frams are those ones that can bend all over the place does make them appealing. I think I like the style enough to keep them for a long, long time too.

I was considering whether to go with the retailer plastic lenses or the optional glass. Haven't made my mind up on that yet...

Yeah, no kidding haha, though I don't know how much of a discount you'd get. I did see the black framed ones in a shop in Jacksonville and the the shop agreed to drop them down to like $290 + tax. Not sure if I can do better than that.

Anyone have any advice on the color? The black v the silver? I saw the silver framed ones this afternoon, but for some reason they look cheap to me. All the silver framed ones do. But I really did like the blue arms...

Why don't you just draw a pair of designer sunglasses on paper and cut them out? Make sure you cut the 2 holes cuz if you don't..bishes be stumbling and falling when they can't see.
