Yep. I'd say it this way -

Loud definitely does not always = more power
but
Power almost always requires more loud, at least at WoT.

That said, the very best, well designed, well constructed, performance exhaust systems are those that are pretty quiet under most "normal" conditions and only really blast more than OEM under WoT conditions. Those are truly the best systems worth paying for and are what any smart enthusiast wants (instead of fart-can systems that are just blatting loud all the time and even probably not really that high performance).

This is usually done AFAIK with proper resonator/muffler design - both part choice and placement. This is why getting custom one-off muffler shop systems done can be hit or miss in terms of optimizing the loud vs. power ratio (aka vs. an engineered exhaust package)... Unless they have figured out a proper "system" for an exact chassis/motor, the resonance issue is a guess and 'random' as to if it will be successfully quiet at less than WoT. On the other hand if you do have a shop that's done a system for your car and you can see and hear it work (or if you know someone with a system 'recipe' - aka 'use an XYZ muffler here and an ABC resonator here in these sizes'), it's often a fraction of the cost of a fancy tuners system...

Just wanted to say that the headers fit perfectly. Installed very smoothly. Unfortunately, my straight pipes with glass packs that sounded great before sound terrible now. The exhaust is for sale now, since I have a Magnaflow kit coming now.

The only thing that sucks is that the O2 sim isn't working. It worked for like 250 miles, then the CEL came on.

the Sims have issue on the highway because the car does a lean cat check after about 40-50 miles of straight highway cruising. in the city it wont pop on, but if you do a lot of highway crusiing it will. just wipe it and leave it till the next time it pops on. the sims really are there to get rid of the light nothing else.

That's wierd, because my sims stayed off for the 200 mile trip from Satellite Beach to Clearwater, pretty much all highway driving. It didn't turn on until my return trip, while I was leaving Clearwater the next day; and that was when I was going maybe 35-40 in town. I cleared the code, but it has been coming back all week, and that is on my non-highway commute. While I know it's not a real problem, it is annoying to still have the light coming on and having to clear it every day or so. It's behaving as if the sims aren't there at all.

Any update?

Edit: I'm getting two CEL's:

After Cat O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Cyl #1-3
After Cat O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Cyl #4-6

I did some research and it looks like it may be a break in the heater circuit (not necessarily related to the sims), looks like I have to trace the wires back to the harness...

Anthony;

I ordered a set of headers and O2 sims through your website last Wednesday but never got a tracking number and haven't received them yet. My order number is 178 if that helps. If you could please get me an update and tracking number, or estimated ship date that would be great!

Thanks

heater circuit has nothing to do with the o2sims.

did you use the original o2 sensors or are you using a resister for the heater sim. they are the white wires.

Yeah, that's the same conclusion I'm reaching. I used the O2 sensors. I left the white wires intact and powered the sim off of the red/white wire in the loom in front of the filter housing above the engine. I'm going to measure the resistance of the sensors by this weekend to make sure they didn't break. I only have them zip-tied in the drug bin, didn't have the nut to bolt them to the junction box I put in (nuts should be here today or tomorrow). If the sensors are good, I'll look at the harness and make sure I didn't tug too hard on it or have any breaks in the wires. Since everything worked for a few hundred miles with the sims and the code I am getting is related to the heaters, I'm beginning to think they may have rattled and broke.

My 330i after headers got a little worst fuel consumption than before headers, the indicator before headers was 13.5 lt/100km (about 17mpg) now is 14.3 lt/100km (about 16mpg) in the city theoretically should have better fuel consumption with the headers

ya you put on those headers and all of a sudden you start driving a lot harder.

the headers themselves do not hurt fuel economy.
