I don't get your bench lol. I'm 6'0 and I do 185x5 for my max, but I shoulder press 120x5.

Do you keep elbows tucked and touch your chest with each Rep? Crazy how everybody is different

Don't you weigh way less than me? So you are relatively stronger than me in both bench and shoulder press

I'm 210 now
So max 225 bench isn't much
Although I'm due for a new max attempt
Being able to do 3 reps at 205 multiple times is a good sign
But that 125 shoulder press 1rm is terrible

You're not due for a new max attempt. All you do is eat chipotle and max out.

What's wrong with that?

I forget when I hit 225 bench
Think it was about two months ago
It's the 6 month mark so I need to check my bench max as well

I think maybe I'll try a max bench day. I haven't tried to max in years.

After my 6-months progress check, I'm not going to be maxing all the time
Because I'm switching from trying to gain strength and size to shedding fat and gaining definition
I expect my strength gains to slow to a crawl or even lose some

So bench max and squat max this week

My Ride: a franken-e46 325i
was away from the gym for 4 days
spent the weekend in vegas
so i eased back into the routine

squat
190x7 x3
190x5 x2
225x5

incline bench
135x5 x5
155x5
i never tried 5x5 on the incline so i tried with 135
i can definitely do more than that so i'll try 155x5x5 next time

bb shoulder press
100x5 x5

DB shoulder press
50x5 x3

cable rows
180x10 x3

Pullups
10x3

some situps on a decline situp thingy

Deadlift
225x23 reps
13 normal, 5 stiff, 5 sumo
275x5x5
225x5 sumo
225x8 normal

BB bicep curls
60x10 x3

Lat pulldown
190x8

Bentover DB row
75lb x10 each side

My hands are pretty torn up from all the DL
it hurts to grip anything so I stopped short on the pulldown and rows
Finishing up with some leg presses and situps

i've been doing high bar squats all this time
low bar does not feel right .. i can't quite get my arms behind to secure the bar (lack of flexibility) plus i don't have a lot of back muscles to keep the bar in position
but i will keep working on trying to do low bar squats from now on

Probably isn't much difference. It's kind of a preference.

High bar and low bar target and stress different parts of the body
I think I will benefit more if I can do low bar properly

bench max
175lbs -> 240lbs
6 months of hard work

deadlift max
275lbs -> 385lbs
a huge difference in 5 months

now squat max
255lbs -> ???
that was 5 months ago
i may try tomorrow

How many times do we have to tell you, stop with all three attempts in such a short period of time, yes you are doing different lifts but they all stress the entire body. You will eventually hurt yourself.

That's true. I think they're pretty similar though.

This may be the best post about why not to do it yet. until this we kind of just said "stop". lol.

Ed, I think it's great you're much stronger but you are testing maxes sooo often. It will probably be ok...but still not the greatest idea. I also think a max on a dead or a squat is a lot worse in a short period than a Press or Bench max that imo wont stress the body as much.

I need a marker
I set certain goals
Said I'm going to bulk for 6 months and work out like a madman and see how much stronger I can get
Now I'm checking to see how far I've come
