I think we should measure from ground to center of fender in the front wheel well. because you can be sitting over uneven ground and the sideskirts can be lower or higher then normal giving unaccurate measurements, but the wheel will always stay relatively the same with the fender. know what i mean?

If you're on uneven ground it doesn't matter, both the sideskirt and fender would be inaccurate... if it's uneven, it's uneven.

not really though. if your front wheels are sitting in a dip then the front bumper and sideskirts will be closer to the ground. but if you measure from the dip (or wherever the wheel is sitting) to the fender it shouldnt change.

and some people can have different sideskirts that also changes the measurements.. i just think the fender is the most consistantly accurate... thats how the vw guys do it too

Yeah, sitting the key against the sideskirt is just a quick and easy way to reference the height... not truly accurate

it doesnt matter how the VW guys do it, these are BMW's we have our own way. its called the jack pad challenge. not the ground to fender challenge. if you have lower sides skirts, smaller wheels, etc. Thats an advantage for you because they technically makes you "lower"

that bullshit.. the best cars are the ones where the body of the cars are laying on the ground. where they actually CAN'T put on lips or skirts because they simply dont have the room. those cars are low. or when the car comes stock with a lip kit and they have to remove it so they can get that extra 1/2" to lower their car more... thats low

i could have a stock height car and throw on a big body kit and be "low"? thats not a low car to me.

maybe i think of being low a little different then.

btw i dont have any jacking pads either, so i cant measure from there

If you measure relative to the jack pads it would not be affected by lower side skirts because the jack pad plugs/mounts into the underbody of the car and the side skirt is formed to go around it. So lips, sideskirts, etc don't effect it but smaller wheels/tires would. Only problem is half of us either don't have jack pads or they're worn away.

I think fenders are the best way to measure also since it is measuring at the car's point of contact to the ground (wheel) so slight lumps & dips on the ground between the wheel base won't effect the height measurement.

I think that people need to post their tire & wheel sizes with the measurement also because the difference sizes will effect height. For example, my car sits about 1/2" higher on my 18"-255/35 setup than my 17"-225/45 stockies, and a car with 18's on 205/40 will sit lower than a car with 225/40.

I just measured mine and im at 23.5" front and rear with 18x8.5 et27 255/35/18, so not completely slammed since i'm running sqaure 255's but still pretty low. I can tuck rim on the rears with my coilovers but my front is just about as low as it can go without rubbing on my wheel/tire setup.

i was at 23.5. that was on 20's though.

i dunno, i have a whole different perspective on being low. i would have hated driving my car is it was on 18's rolling as low as i did. no wheel gap and a 1.75" from my front lip clearance was fine for me. but i still drove the hell out of my car. wheelgap + a low kit is the best look, imo of course. as long as its clean then im game. too many people with dents all over, broken bumpers, zipties, stickerbombing, and they still manage to spend money on wheels or tires or bolts or whatever. its a shame.

I was gonna post a bunch of old pics, but instead thought of this old DROPPED BIMMERS thread, looked it up and voila.
