My Ride: 318i E46
Angry Dying 318I

Hi guys

I am driving a 2004 318i E46. The car idles as if it is a Diesel, so much so that when I pull up to the Petrol pumps, the attendants automatically presumes that I am driving a Diesel. The mechanics at the BMW garage suspects that my Ecsentric Shaft is worn out and wants me to replace it for around R15 K.

About a month ago my EMS light came on, and after running a diagnostic, it was found that the Valve Tronic Motor had to be replaced. After replacing the motor, my nightmares started. My car started idling eratic, as if the Spark plugs or Coils were worn out. I replaced the four coils as per there advice for about R3 K(without labour), but the eratic idling was still there. My car sounded as if it had a miss on the engine. I took it for a spin, only to find out that I can't get over 130 kph, and when I aproach an incline, the car would lose power and reduce speed to about 80 kph. If i aproached a Stop sign or Traffic Light, it would just die under me, and I have to restart again. When you are driving in town, it is as if the car is not getting any petroll, because it will splutter and then it will go norma and then it will solutter again and so on and so on. You can just imagine how frustrating all this has made me.

I took the car back to the BMW garage where they once again ran diagnostics, even checking the compression. According to the COMPUTER , there was nothing wrong with the Engine. According to the mechanics it could also not be my fuel system because they have replaced my Petrol Pump in February!!! Since the COMPUTER can't find anything wrong with my car, the mechanics suggested I invest in a new engine , since they also don't know anymore where to look for the problem. This has made me lose total trust in their abalities and made me question wether they are real mechanics or are they totally dependant on the Diagnostic Computer???

I bought my car in October 2009, was very happy with my E46, and up to now the only problem I had was with the car sounding like a Diesel, but in the last month this new problem is driving me up the walls. It is now more than a week since i have last driven my car, because it freaks me out to be driving this Classy Car that sounds like an 74' tractor. I wish I could capture the look of amasement on the other motorists faces when i pull up next to the in my E46 sounding like its about to fall apart at any minute!!!

Please Fellow Fanatics, help me out with sound advise.
