I'm thinking of trying it out this year for the first time... Where can I buy a jacket and pants for snowboarding at a reasonable price? .. (online)

trusnow.com (formerly sierrasnowboard.com). I've bought tons of stuff from them. I'd also highly recommend some proper socks. Regular cotton socks can become soaked/cold as the day goes on.

^^ you guys beet me to it!

... sierrasnowboard.com (now trusnow.com i guess)

...and def go to Ski-dazzle at the LA convention center for gear. Everything is pretty much 40-70% off, and you can get everything you need. You can also keep buying entry tickets for $20 and turn it in for a $54 big bear ticket, gotta be a little sneaky though if doing it multiple times/day.

also departmentofgoods.com has some good deals..

For what its worth, unless you know what you're looking for, SkiDazzle isn't really that great of a deal. Typically 75% of the merch is lower end gear that is cheap because its low end. Then you have 20% mid level stuff by most of the popular brands that isn't really marked down that much, or if its marked down, its because it is a lower level product by those brands. The last 5% are the "steals" that most people think they'll be getting by going, but they usually leave with something that doesn't perform as well.

For clothing, I'm talking about waterproofing and breathability in particular. All the pants you're going see at skidazzle that are like $40 will have you wet in no time. Now, I dont know how much riding you plan on doing, but for me, I don't even look at pants unless they're over 10,000mm. The ones I'm riding in now are 20,000 and I'm never wet.

A few years back at skidazzle I found a Burton AK goretex (30,000mm) marked down from 600 to 200 and its been my main jacket ever since, its like an impenetrable fortress for outside moisture.

All news to me! Im completely new to this and Ive been wanting to give this sport a genuine shot since im not too far from Mt. High and Big Bear.. Considering I like it as much as I anticipate I'll probably try to go regularly and start learning as i go...

Thanks for the great info
