XI muffler options...what's out there??
I've searched and XI's seem to be the red headed step-child for aftermarket mufflers. I would like to find a "performance" muffler, not cat-back system, that would make a lower exhaust note, no annoying cabin drone at cruise and fit the XI. I found products by Dinan and Supersprint that seem interesting but may be too open where they pop and sputter on throttle release. I don't expect any actual performance gains and am not interested in resonator deletes, headers or fart-can solutions, just a subtle, lower note.
What do you XI owners recommend? There is a BMW performance muffler spoken about but I can't find 'em. Anyone run the Dinan or Supersprint muffler only? I'd like to know your results.

I run a Hartge end muffler on my 330XI, really deep sound around 2000rpm. and a loud "vale" at the top end.
(Don't know how to spell "vale" but you get my point) Looks like this: |

Interesting tele, not sure what "vale" is. Would that be rasp or throaty sound? Single tip is different.

Hard to describe the sound of course, but it's not like the rasping noize from the M3, more like a loud howl if you know what I mean...
Pulling 6000 rpm whit the window down in a tunnel is very loud! |

Rogue Ikon ($550) has lower tone & not too loud. Rogue DMS ($619) may be just a little louder due to second resonator delete & not quite as low toned. Another would be Remus sportexhaust. All would fit your XI & I believe they are what you are looking for...GL

Yeah, no difference for xi mufflers. I believe almost any RWD exhaust sytem will work on our cars with minor tweaks.

Thanks gents, my mistake on the XI fitment. It's cat-back systems that are specific to XI's not axle back mufflers. The Ikon sounds like what I'm shopping. Noticed it has a clamp or weld install. If anyone has this style, do you go ahead and weld them? Wondering about dissimilar metals - stainless against tailpipe steel and how they could weld them?

I don't know if you've heard it before but the stock muffler on a Z4 2.5l sounds pretty cool. I'd say it's deeper than the stock 325i muffler and a little bit louder.
EDIT: Take that back, the mufflers are totally different shapes. My bad. Last edited by rmodys; 07-19-2010 at 10:33 PM. |

Are all mufflers cut & weld or are there some bolt-on applications that fit our cars? I'm not looking to go cat-back or delete a resonator.
