My Ride: A Car
My first trip to the Ring!!

Yesterday I took a trip up to the Nurburgring with a friend. This was my first time on the Ring and I must say, that is was truly awesome! The types of cars sitting around waiting to go out was impressive (Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus, etc.)

I rode a few laps with my friend in his turbo Mini to get a feel for the track. So many turns at that place! 13 miles of pure enjoyment. After two laps I decided to jump in my car and give it a run. My first lap around the ring (bring to gantry) was a 10:30. Not too bad I thought, there was so much to try and remember about the course.

3 laps later I posted a 9:36 and backed it up with a 9:37 (that with slowing down due to an accident). I was very happy! Not bad for a 323i. Besides the 9:36 some great moments included me passing two Porsche Turbos and 2 bikes!!

I can say my car is in need of some power. There were many uphill sections where you are on the gas 100% and the car refuses the accelerate. This creates a situation, especially when you look in your rearview mirror and see a pack of sharks (mostly Porsches) approaching. I would spend the next few moments maneuvering to give them room to pass.

I can't wait to get out there again. Will probably be in a few weeks, next week I am getting car clay barred and detailed. I think my new goal will be low 9s by the time I leave Germany.

Here are a couple of photos. Waiting to see if more get posted on the Nurburgring photo site.

edit: This was on Nitto NT-05s. Suspension was Turner TrackSport package w/ sways. Brake Pads were Hawk HP Plus.

Super jealous! I bet TMS would be happy to hear their suspension is ripping up the 'ring.

I used the following alignment settings:

Front Camber: -3.5
Front Toe: 1/4 out
Caster: Put as much positive caster as I could get
Front TP: 36

Rear Camber: -2.0
Rear Toe: 5/16 in
Rear TP: 38

I had a pyrometer with me but did not take tire temps. I was having too much fun and I was set on learning the track first. When I head back I will take tire temps.

Does anyone happen to know where I can find tire data for the NT-05?
