[QUOTE=cowmoo32;15782885]I'm thinking about doing that next summer. I have a friend who works for a tower contractor and he said they're always hiring new climbers. How do you like it?

I like it alot but it's a different lifestyle with the company I work for. We do jobs all over the midwest, so I'm gone for weeks on end living in hotels. I work with 2-3 guys that are all really cool so it helps when you work and live with them all the time. There's alot more to it than just climbing like I first thought and alot of my previous jobs have helped with this. If you have the basic knowledge of construction, electrical, pipe fitting, etc then it's easy.

Unlike that stairway to heaven video, you're harnessed into something 90% of the time. Most of the recent fatalities have been from negligence or being to comfortable and skipping steps. If you do it, good luck. Always ask questions and ask what else you can do to help. The more you know the more valuable you are and the more you're crew will like you. In a small group like mine everyone puts out and doesn't stand around screwing around.

Some things I don't like-

-Could pay a little better, but I haven't been here long and don't know everything.

-time and access to certain things. Like cracking the screen on you're phone and being out in the sticks with no Best Buys around.

-Diet. Me and a guy were talking about this last night. Hard to eat healthy on the road and trying to avoid fast food.

Exercise. Most the hotels don't have gyms or free weights. Going from working out everyday to almost never has been rough.

Other than that it's good. I like being at different jobs and towns every couple days. Risk is a rush too. I had one desk job and never again.

When I was working full time I traveled a decent amount but it wasn't for climbing towers. I wasn't a huge fan and I know that climbers travel often, but at least you get to get up in the air and see some sh!t as opposed to traveling for a conference or meeting. If I do it, it will only be for a few months so I'd be ok with traveling, and from what my friend told me, I would be going all over the country which I'm ok with. I think it would be a blast to get paid to do work a few hundred feet in the air. You mention pay, I've read/heard that it's decent (50k+ a year), is that true?

Re: Random Bimmerapp Picture thread

Yeah 50-60k easily. I'll probably be around 40 this year with being new and whatnot.

The view is nice. We just got done at a job at ISU and it was about 150 feet and could see and holler at the ladies. Sometimes it's an ass pass too. Chicks dig buys who take risk and have a dangerous job. If you have any other questions let me know. I'm not a veteran at this but know my sh1t.
