Best free OBd2 laptop software

Hey guys I just ordered an obd2 to USB cable. I was just wondering what are some free decent programs are for it. Did anyone else go this route instead of buying an over priced set up?

apparently you need a security dongle with carsoft. Do you know any way around this?

It's not free, but I've been using http://www.autotap.com/ for years and have been pleased with it.

I use the AutoEnginuity software with the enhanced BMW module, it is not free but you usually get what you pay for..........

Autoingenuity says it has bidirectional support. Does this have the ability to program the ECU?
