Thoughts on insurance for multiple vehicles

I have a car and a motorcycle, and both are registered in my name only.

Why is it that I have to pay insurance for both vehicles, even if I can only use one of them at a time? When I'm not using one vehicle, it sits in the garage being covered by homeowners insurance.

I think I should only have to pay the rate of my most expensive vehicle, and it will apply to all of them.

That sounds like a great idea. Good luck with that.

Or if they did you probably haven't heard of them because they beat the system so profoundly.

They can all catch fire, be flooded, vandalized or be stolen at the same time

What about liability? Can they call hit someone else's car at the same time while sitting in the garage?

On today's episode of Dave's Sarcasm we see yet another case of "joke over head" syndrome.

Which is why multi-vehicle discounts exist, no?

I thought everyone was being facetious, as this is obviously a horrible idea.

Because if my awesome jeep loses control, hops a curb, and slams into your driveway, I'm going to take out all your rides. Liability wise, your liability insurance doesn't double with 2, 3, etc vehicles, it's usually only a little bit more, not much. Finally, you can loan a vehicle to a friend, and drive the other one, so technically both your vehicles can be driven at the same time. You are not insuring the driver, you're insuring the vehicle.

Just a quick correction. Your homeowners policy won't cover jack when it comes to your car or motorcycle. Every homeowners policy in the books excludes coverage for vehicles licensed for road use. If your garage burns down and your vehicles aren't covered on an auto policy, you will be SOL.
