e36 turning off while driving

i recently installed a CAI in my e36, today i was on the freeway and i hit 95 then put it in neutral to coast until i hit the exit and my oil and battery light comes on and my car is off ! i pull off to the side to see if maybe i broke a belt or anything but everything seemed fine and this happened again on the way back home, i was going 80. is it my CAI fault that my car turned off?

Thanks E46Fanatics!!

By any chance do you have a bunch of keys on the ring with your ignition key..? It's been known to happen where the weight of the keyring under certain circumstances, can cause the connection with the immoblizer to be lost, and cut the power. Your ignition key should be all by it's lonesome..

Is you A/C on when you do this? Is it an auto? It's not really a good practice to coast like that, popping it into neutral while coming to stop is nothing, but at highway speeds it's not a good idea.

The A/C might do it- what mods do you have? In my e36 sometimes when I would pop it into neutral while coasting to a stop with the A/C on the revs would drop so much that it would stall too, I think it's a common problem, lots of drag on the motor (A/C) and a sudden loss of the momentum keeping it going- or something like that. I don't know if it's related to CAI, maybe the freer flowing motor is kind of 'looser' so to speak and has more of a tendency to do it? My car always had a CAI so I don't know.
As for coasting at high speeds in neutral, it's just a lack of control issue, not horrible just not as safe.
I would just stop doing whatever causes the problem, in this case coasting in neutral

the problem was the MAF getting crazy and shutting off car, moved the CAI up more

the problem was that i had air forcing into the intake while i was idling and moving so the MAF was misreading it and would cause the car to shut off, thanks tho!
