E46 - has anyone fitted 6 1/2" speakers in the front of a 4 door saloon or touring?

As far as i know the standard front speaks are 6" but most people fit 5 1/4" comps but has anyone ever fitted 6 1/2" or made door pods/door builds

I recently replaced all of my factory speakers with new 6.5 inch speakers in my coupe and they fit with no modification to the car itself.
I cut the existing mounting brackets off from the factory speakers and modified them to suit the new 6.5" speakers. (see pic below, thanks to fgin for the pic)

The most important thing is to make sure that the depth of the new speakers is no more than the factory speakers and you'll have no problem, from memory you want to keep it 60mm or less.
The speakers I used were Orion XTR 6.5" components for the front doors and Orion XTR 6.5" coaxials in the rear.
