New Sirius Information

FYI:

I was at the dealership this weekend and I got my hands on the Aftersales Parts Bulletin for the Sirius Satellite Radio Incentive Program. The dealer that hooks you up gets $25 which doesn't make much of a difference, but here is the deal for the radio hardware and service:

3 payment preferences:

Sirius Standard Monthly Plan - $12.95/month - No annual commitment
BMW Monthly Plan - 1st two months free - 1 year commitment.
BMW Annual Plan - 1st two months free - Cost of 11months of service. $142.45/yearly.

Here is the pricing for the parts you will need for 3 series sedans and coupes w/o navigation (MY2003 - on) Although I'm sure it should work in < 2003 manuf'd vehicles.

Sirius Receiver
PN: 84 11 0 141 981 - $299.00
Sirius Roof Antenna Kit
PN: 84 11 0 141 979 - $125.00
Installation Kit
PN: 84 11 0 141 976 - $75.00
Total Suggested Installation Time: 1.5 hours

For vehicles with CPT-8000 (instead of 0 141 976)
Installation Kit for CPT--8000
PN: 84 11 0 150 530 - 84 11 0 150 530 - $75.00
Total Suggested Installation Time: Same as above
Telephone Bumper Antenna
PN: 84 11 1 470 326
Time: Plus 1 Hour - $50.00

For vehicles with 6-disc CD Changer
CD Changer Extension Cable
PN: 84 11 0 150 526
Time: Plus 0.1 hr - $15.00

Hope some of you will order this!!

I'd buy it tomorrow if I was sure that it would work with my MY2001. The dealer says that there is some software upgrade that would have to happen with my car and they can't do it. I'm skeptical that this should be necessary. I'd love to be the guinea pig and try it but I don't want to return to the parts department like a dumb a$$ trying to return the stuff.

They should be able to tell you whether it will work or not. If they install it and it doesn't, it should be at their expense since they agreed to do it.

They told me that it would not work. I have a hard time believing this. I asked if I got an updated head unit, would it make a difference and they are saying no. How does adding something that functions almost like a CD changer be so difficult for them to do?

Give them the part numbers that I listed above. I received this BMW Aftersales Parts Bulletin. Try another dealer possibly? You are replacing the head unit and adding an antenna. The tuner is integrated into the head unit I believe.

If the CPT-8000 that I mentioned in the parts list is in fact the navigation, you're all set. I'm not sure what the CPT-8000 actually is. There was no mention of it. Otherwise, there was no information regarding the integration of the aftersales Sirius radio and navigation.

Good luck!

I just spoke to a local dealer, they said that the satellite radio WILL work on a '03 w/ NAV.

Also, they told me (dunno if it's true or not) but currently, the Sat. will work on cars w/ production date of Sept. 02 on. A software update is in the works for the < 09/02, but dunno when.

Oh well, guess I'll have to wait.

Right, what I've heard is that there is no upgrade for cars produced before 9/02 (i.e., MY2002 and older cars), and ANY cars with Navigation.

To read the dealer update yourself, it's in the files section of the bmwnav forum on groups.yahoo.com.

I've seen the dealer bulletin and it has prices for the equipment and the install time (would have attached but attachments are unavailable), but doesn't say whether or not it can only be installed by the dealer. Regardless, the dealer would need to recode the MODIC, and you would prefer that the Sirius radio be activated by the BMW dealer, as it would be free (normally $14.95 or so) and you would also get two months service free.
