OP
Perhaps you haven't spend enough time Modding your E90 yet..

However, to have a classic E46 M is not a bad idea.
See if you can get one on the "cheap" and it'll be a great run-about while you still have an excellent E90M to keep fresh.

Hey...not taking shots.....was in the same shoes earlier this year. Newborn son caused me to part with my 135 and the monthly payments and bought in cash a nice '02 M3 as a replacement. Very happy with the swap.
what do you like more e46 m3 or 135i?

Pick up a ZCP and supercharge it. You'll probably have money left over too assuming you aren't upside down or on a 6 year loan or something. There's nothing wrong with wanting an older car especially if you like them. What about people that drive muscle cars? Some people just prefer a specific style, ignore these kids and the "newer is better" mentality. It may be better on paper but it's what feels right with you behind the wheel that really matters.

im gonna call you insane. if you have a 2009 m3 , you can afford to have a nice e46 m3 also. Unless you really dont like the newer body style.

Because someone has a new M3 means he can afford an additional M3? That's just stupid. lol

I personally can understand, I wouldn't want an E90 M3. I do not like the lines of the 4door. Much prefer an E92 or E93. I love the E46, but I think I like the E92 M better.

I don't think that there exists a logical reason for you to proceed with this trade, and this is coming from somebody who has owned two E46 ///M3's and who now drives an E90 ///M3. If you liked the lines of the E46 better, WHY did you spend your money on an E90?

I get 18/22 out of my E90 ///M3. That equals what I used to get out of my Comp.Package E46 ///M3. This all changes if/when I drive like it's 24HR's of Lemans.

Maybe I'm missing something but you presumably bought an E90 rather than an E92 because you wanted/needed 4 doors. Obviously an E46 is 2 doors only so what changed? Both great cars though....

I like the e46 M3 because it seems like you can mod it more and make it look more aggressive. the e90 just look so stock no matter how much you mod it.

yes its going to an older car, with a smaller, less powerful engine and older technology.. BUT at the same time, its still a great classic high performance car, AND u can put 20 grand (maybe more) in your pocket
