Angry What is wrong with my stereo

Ever since i bought this car the stereo has been a nightmare. All i want is something that will:

work with iphone 3gs/4g
Let me control through head unit AND ipod/iphone
Control with steering wheel control
Charges ipod/iphone

First try:
USA-Spec adapter
works for a week, then stops
i reset it, works for a week and stops
What would happen is that I would plug in my iphone and the head unit would display "no magazine"
Also it wouldnt charge iphone after the second reset
take it to the stereo shop, they try EVERYTHING (new module, new cables, taking it out and installing a BRAND NEW one) and I end up with a different problem
Now it reads it and scrolls through songs but no audio

They are out of ideas and give me a deal which leads to...

second try:
New aftermarket head unit
I didnt want one because:

-dont want to take the faceplate off everytime i leave the car
-they are out of place in a bmw
-too flashy
-no way to hide ipod connection
-no steering wheel controls
-horrible radio reception

but i wanted my ipod/iphone in there
After an entire day with my car at the shop
I try it and IT DOESNT SUPPORT IPHONES!!!!! (my main music player)

Now im having them put back the factory head unit and now im back to square one with no ipod and im out $120 in labor because i waited too long to bring it back.

What are my other options??? All i want is my ipod/iphone in my car. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR?????

thank you for reading my rant

I'd suggest a simple aux input adaptor, but you want to control form the headunit and charging. Since the USA spec doesn't seem to be working for you, I (hesitantly) suggest you look into the DICE silverline pro or the new DICE mediabridge. They should do what you want but they have issues of their own.

Do you have the Business CD headunit or a cassette deck?

save half the price and go with the GROM ipod v2 interface, easy to install, zero flaws on my 325i 02 so far.
