Thumbs down Reporting a low-damage hit-and-run

is there any point? I've got a small scratch on my left mirror (outside) after a guy beside me tried to merge and hit my mirror with his. Luckily my mirror collapsed with little damage. I got his plate and pulled over... he kept going.

anything I can do?

Not worth it at all. Wait for something bigger to happen and then when you take it to the shop be like "hey take care of that for me while your at it"

This.

You could put in a police report, but an insurance claim isn't worth it.

My brother had this happen on his 335 in a parking lot. It want big so he didn't put in a claim, then he got some other dings, etc and put in a claim for every little ding.

BUT, even with a police report, it will show up on your driving record as "Activity" and can count against you, even if you're not at fault.

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Best case scenario, I save $40.

Worst case scenario, insurance company will punish me for getting hit.

My buddy had someone hit and run their Z4. There was no dent but lots of paint transfer. We just used a clay bar and some elbow to get it out. Just clean it. You can still file a report if you want.

Get police report, shake down the guy for cash instead of going through insurance

if your insurance raises your premium when it was not your fault AND you didn't even make a claim, then you need to switch insurance co

Yeah, the M and the bike are still in the garage. Neither has gotten much attention lately.

I think my insurance company (USAA) is probably one of the best... that being said, I don't trust any insurance company.

For $40 plus paint? What's your deductible? Will it buff out? No way I contacting my insurance. Save that for the big ones.

From my professional and personal experience. Don't file report especially because when you go to sell the car it's on the car fax, people don't want to see any accident on those. Plus you don't want it on your record due to insurance companies. In my state where I live. It's both cars fault for a merge 50/50 no fault state. Def a big no on reporting if you can fix yourself cheap!
