Hi,
Ive read a number of posts online about the Dynavin Unit. Today I received mine, and attempted to install it. However, ive come to a problem. On the side of my original unit (the Harman Kardon 7inch) it has two plugs that look like the below images; ![]() ![]() Is there an alternate cable / adapter that I can buy or do I need the 5M Fakra harness? This is the harness that I received with my unit which obviously doesn't fit; ![]() Please Help! Thankyou all! |

Honro -wow, it appears that those are the telephone type wiring and they go directly into the headunit. What headunit exactly to you have? Pics of the front? What manufacturer and model number of that headunit? I don't think North America ever got that unit.

Honro,
Yes if you have factory NAV, you need the Fakra 5m harness. With the Fakra, you will not use your factory plugs in that pic, nor will you use that harness that came with the Dynavin. |

so is the dynavin overall easier to install than say a alpine double din?

i think dynavin has a side view pic on their site and there is probably one on here somewhere as well. it is basically a single din like factory, but has the double din face. so it is almost just a drop in unit aside from your typical wiring for an aftermarket setup |

All i have is the factory double DIN head deck that came with the vehicle. Jezz i hope that makes sense. Im assuming the Fakra runs from somewhere in the boot/trunk to the head deck, if so, where in the boot can i look for the amp? Sorry for the newbie questions, just wanna be 100% sure. Ty!! |

Oh, I have never seen that head unit, from the side, it looks like factory NAV. Anyway, probably the same issue though, since you don't have connectors to hook the Dynavin to stock wiring. The Amp is in the trunk on the drivers side. You have to remove that carpeting/panel. Once you do, see if the amp has a big square block connector that would accept "flat" pins. If so, then the Fakra 5M would probably be what you need.

Hi Honro,
That looks just like the 16:9 7" BMW Navigation display. I just removed mine about a month ago. If it does not function either the CPU-DVD is dead or you have nonavigation DVD in the CPU (should be in trunk/boot). In any case, you will most likely need the 5m_Fakra cable. You can order it from here: http://www.cardvdkit.com/index.php?m...roducts_id=156. You will also need a 15m antenna extension cable like this: http://www.amazon.com/Metra-44-EC204.../ref=pd_cp_e_3. You have any questions, let me know. Ray

Jeff,
Got mine installed today, only took about 2hrs including running the fakra, which was the hardest part. I am loving it but have 2 issues, 1 major, 1 minor. The major one is, I bought this unit to stream slacker via Bluetooth, which works great, but if you switch to navi while using Bluetooth, it switches to radio. That is totally unacceptable. The minor thing is the clock, it displays in G.I. Joe time. Is there any way to switch to 12 hour clock? |

haha...GI Joe time.....nope sorry, I dont know why but for some reason the V5 is 24 hour only, ill ask dynavin if that is something that is set in stone....
I asked Dynavin about the bluetooth/Nav deal and basically I have bad news for you....its a hardware limitation, the bluetooth overrides all other functions (which makes sense, it is a phone system after all). But because of this you cant leave the bluetooth streaming function and have it continue to operate and thats exactly what going to Nav does...I realize that the other audio functions operate while in nav mode but they are running off a different piece of hardware and dont have the override function of the bluetooth. In the couple times where I have been in a situation where I need to use the nav and I want to continue to "stream" I just plug into the aux in or the ipod plug for a hard connection....not perfect but its a lot better that no streaming and no aux in on the factory system! Just looked back at your order....no aux in plug....what kind of phone are you streaming from...
