A few questions. Hope I got get smashed for asking them!

1) Is this the same brand sold by Bimmian.com in Canada? I was about buy one TOMORROW when I came across this thread reviewing the 'new' Dynavin unit! Looks similar, but wondering if Bimmian is simply a Canadian reseller?
2) Does this unit play DVDs? It mentions CD/CDRW/MPEG4... but not if it'll actually read DVD discs (with either DVD video or mp3s on it). At the start of this thread, with all the questions answered, it says "DVD/CD/ETC... Also works as expected, it will play mp3 data discs with the same interface as the USB." Just want to confirm.
3) Do all brands of recorded CDs (and DVDs) work without any issue? Has any testing been done?
4) Are there any Canadian resellers of the v5? Depending on the answers to the above, I want! =) If someone here is in Canada and reselling them, please PM me pricing!

I am hugely impressed by the fact that the company makes changes in the middle of a production run. This is the exact opposite of everything I have ever heard about Chinese made electronics. The ipod stuff is very cool.

the dynavin does play DVDs, I have not heard of any issues playing any particular brands.

Thanks Jeff!

Does the external mic still come with the v5, for mounting it up above (where the OEM mic would normally go), or do you have to stick with the built-in mic? I noticed at the start of this thread, you mentioned having better luck with the built-in, but not sure if you took those instructions from the v4 install or not =)

1. not sure. you may need to contact them and ask. a lot of times, pictures do not represent what you are getting.
2.yes it plays dvd's and I think Jeff answered that above. if not, I would consider a different unit myself, but in some other dynavin thread, there was a picture that someone took of their unit showing a DVD being played.
3. I don't know, I think Jeff answered this as well, that he hasn't heard of issues with other brands. sometimes players do have issues with brand discs. I haven't heard reports of that yet with dynavin.
4. I am sure there are some canadian dealers. however, you see in pretty much every dynavin thread who is here supporting everyong and answering all the questions about the units. not just trying to sell, but actually uses and answers questions, JEFF. I would support the person/company who will be supporting you after the purchase. Even if he isn't in Canada, he can ship there unless his company does not do it. Talk to him.

Darkoz, wow, didn't think they even made phones anymore that do not do voice dailing. I know my basic phones I had from verizon a couple yrs ago even did it and they weren't "smart" phones. I can understand wanting the feature to work on the dynavin, luckily I have other ways with my phone.

Jeff

Could you please explain about cars that already have OEM DVD NAV, TV TUNER, HK and BT. would the OEM BT and DVD Nav be disconnected?

Are you kidding, there are more phones on the market that do not have voice dialling than do.
Even iPhones only started having voice dialling capability in the past 18 months since the 3GS version, the 3G which I have does not have voice dialling.
All I'm asking is for an advertised feature to actually work.

no I am not kidding. I don't research phones, so like I said, for a feature like this and my experience, I would think it is commonplace to have on most all phones because of the laws and it should be standard. But it isn't a feature I use and not one I look at when buying a phone. My first iphone is the 3gs, so I never had prior versions. I know a couple of my verizon phones did have the feature, but I never used it and they were not smart phones, which you would think should be a standard feature. but I guess not.

sorry, not trying to argue. like I stated before, I think it would be nice to have the feature work as well, just not something that bothers me. I just read the Maryland law and while it is illegal starting this Friday, we can't be pulled over for just phone use. It is a secondary offense. granted, I am sure they will find whatever they can to claim a first offense to pull you over for it.

Well I can tell you that it is not common place for phones to have voice dialling.
The phone laws are quite different in other countries and while you're lucky that where you are it is not as strict and you can't get pulled over for phone use alone, here in Australia you can and it is stringently enforced, in fact it is illegal to even have the phone in your hand even though you're not actually using it.
So you can see that at the very least having the phonebook displayed on the screen wouldn't be just nice but rather a neccessity.

It is 2010, what kind of Betamax phone doesn't have voice dialing? If your phone doesn't have voice dialing, it is time to get a new phone and not blame it on the Dynavin. Here is a list of phones that have voice dialing. Notice that it doesn't even get past phones that start with A before it runs out of space. http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/fin...m=s&w=s&f12r=r

alright guys, enough phone talk...I think both sides have been heard...

I want people to be able to look at this thread in 6 months and be able to learn about the dynavin....remember when you guys were reading about the dyanvin and having to dig through 60 pages of people arguing....

thank you in advance.

My query was not about voice dialling, that's something that others have thrown into the mix and frankly I don't care about voice dialling because it is not a listed feature for the Dynavin.
However, displaying the phonebook on the screen is a listed feature and should be working but it doesn't.
If Dynavin are able to add a feature which is not listed then I don't see why they have still not fixed an advertised feature since V1.
