It's a soon to be released model, it's not out yet but there are obviously prototypes floating around for testing. When there is something official to be said I'll be posting about it..... Probably sooner than later....

EDIT: N6 units have been released, official thread here: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...3#post16230363

Yes, dynavin has been working on this for a long while now, all new hardware, with a BIG emphasis on being a great car stereo, as that is what has been missing from both theirs and everyone else's prior offerings....

You will see some other VERY important audio related features on that list above too, a 5 band EQ, time alignment (this one is HUGE), 24bit DAC, a GOOD ipod interface with alphabetical quick search, album art, ID3 tags via bluetooth audio.

I didnt want to get into this yet but you are forcing my hand....

FIrst of all, the only things that have been posted so far are a couple unofficial leaks so your negative attitude is fairly premature. Just in the leaked chart above there are 30-40 changes and improvements...."nothing new" you say?......EVERYTHING about the N6 is new.

Secondly, for you and all you guys out there now and in the future staring at computer type "specs" when looking at a car stereo....you are completely wasting your time and going down a road that will only lead you to a bad decision. Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, etc... DONT publish processor specs, speed, RAM, etc... BECAUSE ITS IRRELEVANT on a CAR STEREO.

What matters on a car stereo are audio specs, audio features, and how well implemented those features are. Go read the Enco/Eonon/(and all the other android unit) threads.....its fairly clear that good "specs" with bad implementation leads to a few things that dont work, a lot of things that partly work, and a bunch of bugs. Implementation and software are far more important than just the processor specs.

Sure, processor specs are a little relevant when talking about android units as apps require a certain amount of minimum hardware capability, but what good is running pandora for instance....if it crashes, or has to be restarted every time, or sounds bad ...but the new Dynavin N6 is NOT an android unit....it was designed from the ground up as a car stereo nav system.....and in my experience so far, a pretty good one.

As the guy who for the last 5 years has had to answer all the questions and explain all the past compromises and shortcomings, Im REAL happy they went this way. A high quality, well thought out, easy to use, well integrated OEM style head unit is exactly what this market needs right now.

An emphasis on audio quality sounds very promising. Let's hope that means they put a half-decent DAC in there and not just the time-shifting DSP!

From the leaked pics around it has to be said that the interface looks really good. Very clean, and uniform throughout the various modes. Nice to see music selectable by albums, not just one huge listing of every track on the USB device, and FM radio stations dsiplaying and stored by their RDS names rather than frequencies (a pet peeve of mine on all these double-dins to date). The provision for controlling an external DAB tuner is also good. Fingers crossed that the new iPod interface can cope with a full 160GB Classic.

Automatic screen dimming via ambient light sensor is welcome too, but perhaps the big news for a Dynavin could be the ability to upload software updates and new features.

Of course, all this is gleaned from pre-release pictures that may not reflect the finalised product. But it does look promising, and I'm sure Jeff will be good to his word and post all the actual details when it's released for sale.

I guess the cat is out of the bag...http://www.dynavin.com, its a brand new website and they are still working on it but you get the idea....

Yes, since there are a bunch of knock off units out there now Dynavin has to differentiate themselves by going to a higher quality setup across the board....and that is what this is all about. There is a ton of vehicle integration stuff that they have been working on too.....only a few of the new features are relevant to the E46 crowd.....but there are "game changers" coming for the E39 and E90 guys.

no problem on the 160gb classic (I have one running with my prototype as we speak). And its a USB connection so no more dedicated cables.

The screen dimming setup is the best ive seen in car audio as it dims the backlight.....not just makes the screen darker....so no more glowing screen at night, it can be dimmed down to nothing, AND it lets YOU decide what triggers the unit to dim, the headlight switch, or the ambient light sensor, AND the amount of dimming is adjustable. Basically this thing looks fantastic at night.....not something Ive EVER been able to say about ANY car stereo.

All this and a ton more will be in my official post when I do it....

correct. 2 reasons, SiriusXM is a US product and dynavin sells the same unit globally....and I hate to say it but sat radio is a dying technology....everything is going towards internet based streaming. Even SiriusXM knows this....thats why they have an app for everything, internet streaming right on the front page of their website and paid the big bucks for the content (howard stern, etc...) they know they need to be in the content creation business because their days as a content delivery business are numbered....

.
I'm not being negative about the unit itself but about that specs graphic posted with no hardware info. Well...I see your point, it's all new compared to the latest Dynavin released 2 years ago.

Of course I'm not looking for many hardware specs in a 200$ pioneer 1din unit because like you say, it's irrelevant. But when it comes to a 600$-700$ 2din HU...I certainly do , because it isn't a simple radio. It envolves many more funcionalities and I want to be sure they will do their job properly. THAT may have something to do with the Processor, the Ram, the SO itself...

I know I won't have glare problems in the 3 line display of a 1DIN regular unit. But I will prefer a capacitive screen in a 2DIN one for example...

I'm agree about the implementation but that forms group with the hardware and the software aswell as the quality of the components and the finishing of the entire unit.

Yes, I'm aware of all other units and it's true they all have bugs, some of them were fixed and others are in progress. There's no perfect product anyway, previous Dynavins weren't free of errors neither. I wonder if this new unit will receive regular updates, or if it's going to continue the path this manufacturer followed in the past.

For what you say...some hardware specs may not be so important in this radio and it's great it's focused in the audiophile way. This unit seems to be like the proper one for those who are seeking for true audio quality over the other features.

However, from the perspective of a customer, there will be always the need to compare from different products. We all want the bigger amount of info, that makes things easier in order to choose the best option.

Cheers

For anyone else as interested in this unit as me, I saw yesterday that the N6 user manual is now on Dynavin's new site: N6 owners' manual

Jeff, can I ask if your iPod Classic contains any Apple Lossless tracks? And, if so, does the new Ipod-USB interface play those as happily as the more common MP3 and AAC formats?
(Most of my Classics's capacity is taken up by lossless rips of my CD collection, and I'm not about to downgrade them to lossy!)

Hey Jeff

Any word on the pdc feature if it will support front pdc sensors when in drive? This will definitely be a game changer for me.

No. Or at least there's no mention in the specs that it is.

I think we have to be realistic about what this N6 is though. I see it as a (much) better-honed replacement for their WinCE units. I don't see it as a direct competitor to the million-and-one app downloadable, multi-tasking, smart Android units.

There's nothing on the N6 that could make use of a multi-touch screen. On an Android unit though, I'd imagine one would be pretty much indispensable.

With regard to glare, I wasn't aware that resistive screens were any worse than capacitive screens, per se. I was under the impression that was down to whether they were matt or glossy, and how bright they could go. Am I wrong here?
