Auto Zone codes came up volkswagen???
Went to Auto Zone to check the service engine soon codes and it cam up as volkswagen. Is this normal or did they screw up.
Didn't give me a code per se, but said air injection system insufficient flow. Probable cause is faulty air solenoid valve and faulty air system relay. Is this an O2 sensor? If not, where are they located? Thanks in advance...

Does your engine look like this?

Auto zone coder is retarded
Could be the pump, check valve (back of motor) or air valve (next to pump) There is a diy on you tube on how to tell which it is. Search ( e46 secondary air system ) on youtube. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...03&hg=11&fg=45 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...88&hg=11&fg=50

Oh I know what the problem is...
You went to AutoZone for diagnostic work. What works for a 98 Corolla isn't always gonna do it for a modern BMW.

Actually, the research that I have done is google for these probable causes and they come up for jetta's, audi, and passat. What are you referring to?

Yes I did, but because I live in a very small town in Tennessee, and we have no import shop in town that owns a diagnostic machine with BMW software. Closest one is about 40 miles... I guess I will make the trip next week... I saw on here that Auto Zone could check it, but wanted to check with you guys as this sounded rather strange to me... I grew up around American muscle cars and this is new to me... It used to be a frame, body, engine, suspension, and transmission, and a very small wiring harness for lights and an am radio... Now it's a computer fo everything, code this, sensor that... It's new to me so I appreciate the help!

You can have a free obd 2 scanner on your smart phone for free. I mean its 2011, isnt it. No need to drive anywhere.
If you want something a little bit more accurate and with a bit more potential , you can buy a diagnostic software. Some run as low as $40 and will do the job JUST fine. No need to drive to auto zone.

They have many apps , for iphones, androids. I have a few on my X10 Sony Ericsson. They work just fine. Will read OBD2 codes via wifi or something. Tells you what the code is, then you have a list that tells what the code means.
I tried them but dont use them, they;re just like a fun joke to me eventhou they work just fine, I like to use real diagnostic software.

With the manufacturer specific codes, the autozone scanners only store a few brands... In the case of whatever code you were throwing, they only knew the VW definitions I guess. I remember I once got some code reads and the only data they had for those numbers were from Suzuki or something like that. Anyway, if the printout has the code somewhere on it (should be P1XXX or something like that), post it here and someone probably has a table with the BMW definition of that code. Or you can google it. |
