Question Mysterious 8 wire/10 pin Connector Under Front Ashtray/Cubby Console!?

What the heck is this?

I saw it when I was installing the navigation retrofit wire harness & monitor and assumed it went to the HVAC and I forgot about it. This week I saw it again when I was installing the SMG Steering Shift Paddle wiring in that location.

Only then did I realize it didn't go anywhere or connect with anything else in the area. Also it is impossible for it to reach the regular non-Nav HVAC location or the Tranny box area. In fact it is on a real short wire bunch that entends about 3 inches from the firewall hole into the cabin car. It could only reach under the ashtray or sunglass/cubby holder area. As well as the console switch button bar cluster. But it doesn't connect to anything.

I also noticed it was NOT wrapped up and tucked away like most pre-wiring connectors (I.E OEM Bluetooth) are. It was just sitting there in the mix looking up at me.

If anyone knows what it can be thanks in advance!

BTW this one has stumped all the experts at other BMW forums.

...and now shift paddles for you? Del, would you stop causing trouble for us all?

I have no idea what that's for...though there is a bundle under my console and someone did tell me that they were pre-wires for phone...so maybe that's what you have. But, if you tell me what my mystery piece is, I'll make up something more convincing for you!

But, I'm sure you'll figure out something to do with it...just surprise us!

be serious guys...

I'm surprised at myself that I must have been under that console over a dozen times for various things and I never saw it before.
It wasn't even wrapped up and tucked away. It was just laying there in the open and looking important.

Question for you:
Are boobs and hands polarly charged, thus causing the inevitable joining of the two? If so are some breasts simply charged backwards?

On a scale from 0 to 24...wait, 3 to 24, where 6 is the lowest and 12 is the highest, how freaking high re you right now?

She's got you high, and you don't even know yet.

Not sure if this is the same connector or not, Del, but seems to be and is in the same neighborhood...hard to tell, but are you in front of the shifter or behind it under the console?

Anyway, good luck, and please, if you're going into uncharted territory again, please don't make us wait a year like we did with rear cupholder...the suspense, the checking every hour, just wore me down! LOL

So check out what accessories there might be around there for your car...could it be a connection for the radio...as in cd changer or the like....rear view camera...have no idea what options you might have available.

Later in the evening bump...

So, Del, among my other random thoughts on this...some pre-wiring for different transmissions...as in for a step, if you don't have one...etc...

I know you don't want to hear that it's for the nav...and finally, have you looked for a pn on it...I know the dealer can do wildcard searches and that might speed things up for you.

He does have a step, you can see the two control cables in some of these pictures.

Any code or serial number on the side of the 10-pin?

Del,

Yea, again, find the pn on it...if you don't have a buddy at bmw parts, you can borrow mine! Get me the number and I'll have him hunt it down...though it might not be the only one in your car, I'm sure it'll be easy to figure out from there.

Is it the X13321 plug? I cannot make out the markings on it from the pictures. If so, that plug is for the BMW Assist functionality. It plugs into the back of the Business CD. Not sure if it does the same/how it connects to the BoardMonitor if at all.

nah, it wouldn't reach the back of the cd53 radio. it seems to be imbedded in that one location.

If anything it would plug into something that is extending from under the cupholder console or down from glove box area.

Beside bluetooth what other accessories are there that would have a prewired connector there?
