Idle hangs while coming to a stop

I just recently purchased a 2003 325Xi in amazing shape with 107K on the odometer. It really is in great shape and everything seems to be good.

The only thing that I notice is when I am driving and am approaching a stop, the engine starts to come down (rpm’s) as normal, as I have lifted my foot from the accelerator. But then it seems to kind of “hang” at about 1000-1100 rpms for several seconds before it comes down the rest of the way to an idle.

At the same time, it has a type of drone roar to it while this is happening, (probably the same type of noise as would be expected if I was to hold the accelerator at 1000-1100 rpms while in neutral).

Have any of you had a similar thing happen with you vehicle. Am really at a loss for what this could be.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

normal to ensure enough vaccum to the brake booster while the car is still moving.

if it seems louder than it should be and hangs on or idles awkwardly it could be a symptom of a vacuum leak. I had issues with this on my e36. From the way you explained it though, it sounds like normal idle.

Idle hangs...

Thank you for all your resonses. I will look further into it.

Someone else told me to look at the idle control valve (ICV). Any thoughts?
