RIP blown S54 starter.

Kalim, I got back at like 2:30am and didn't wake up again until like 2pm today.

Sort of. Well, it did click a bunch when we tried, so at least the solenoid was working.

She's my favorite witch, too!

If it's a Spinal Tap t-shirt, that would be even better. Might even say it would go to 11.

Spinal Tap not my generation...and for the first time, you lost me with 11...unless that's the number of fanatics 'you'd' like to meet!

Doug, I highly recommend the very serious Rock documentary entitled "This is Spinal Tap."

Haha. I could've sworn I did, but can't remember what I did with them. Will have to check my archive again.

Productive day today:
-Finished up the clutch switch harness and installed it
-Installed the pedals
-Cut a slot out of the lower trim panel for the clutch pedal
-Removed the steptronic shifter
-Made a reverse light harness and installed it
-Checked the CDV (was already drilled, so left it in)

Of course everyone loves pictures, so here they are:
Auto vs manual drive shaft:

Clutch wiring harness:

Pedals and brake/clutch wiring squared away:

Steptronic shifter out!

Wiring in the DME compartment. The wire tagged with green tape is the BL/BR wire from the clutch switch that plugs into pin 23 of DME module 4.
The white wires near the bottom of the picture plugged into the reverse relay socket are the reverse light wires. Note the RT/WS, BL/GE, GN/WS wires in the center of the picture, just in front of the thick red wires, along the right side of the DME compartment. The BL/GE and GN/WS wires are alternate locations where the reverse can be tapped (Engine plug 2, pins 3 and 4).

Some 2-pol connectors that I scavenged from a cut S54 wiring harness. The one on the left, code 1, is perfect for the reverse light switch on the transmission. Part number is 12521427615 (code 1). The contacts are sold separately.

More part numbers for the other 2-pol connectors with different codes. Note: code refers to the notches cut into the housing.

Time for an update...
Not much progress on the transmission swap. Still waiting on those shift pins from ECS Tuning. :/

-Jay- stopped by today and we did a full diagnosis on his headlight problem again. To recap, he's running OEM xenons on his '99 323i and they were working fine until the driver's side low-beam suddenly went out one day.
The apparent symptom was that the power line was reading around 200mV instead of nominal 12V when the lights were switched on. We narrowed it down to a short, which we traced back to the resistor pack. After removing it, the light worked perfectly fine with a spare LCM. Unfortunately, his original LCM isn't switching that power line on anymore, so the module probably has to be replaced.

In the meantime, we hooked up a relay to bring a new 12V source to the non-functioning power line on the headlight. Power is supplied from the + battery terminal in the engine bay and run through a fuse for safety. The relay is triggered by the power line on the working headlight. We neatly tucked it away and it's even completely reversible when he gets a replacement LCM!

It was raining and Jay had to run so no pics yet, but at least he's driving a little more safely.

lol. It was a pretty decent hack.

Yeah, he really needed it, too. Way too dark without it and the risk of getting pulled over is always there, too.
