I've read on this site that it is necessary to remove the coating from the rotors (except for the top hat) when installing new brakes. When I opened up the box with the new rotors in yet, I found a manufacturer's note stating "Installaion ready! Do not remove protective coating." I'm kind of at a loss as of now. TIA.

There seemed to be an oily coating that doesn't need to be removed and then there is the Z coat that is on the swept area. When braking for the first few times this coating will be worn away. Don't be freaked out! There will be NOISE and VIBRATION involved but it goes away quickly.
