Rear suspension noise?

Hey folks. I have a 2002 330ci, and recently i've been hearing a horrible noise coming from my rear right wheel area. I hit a curb about a month ago, and ever since that it seems to have initiated it. I don't hear anything while i'm driving, but as soon as I hit the slightest bump, a loud thump is heard from that area. I took it to my local auto repair shop and they put it on the lift, and told me everything looks perfectly fine, but the noise is not normal. The mechanics told me to take it to a BMW specialist, but before I take it there, I was wondering if you guys have any input?

Hate to say it but you just missed a 2 year recall. I didnt even read your post and off my mind im thinking your subframe may be ripped.

I agree with the subframe thing. However, the shop didn't notice anything?

Defidently the sub frame issue. Sounds exactly like what i have seen. its hard to see the sub frame issue without putting the car up in the air and putting the susspension under load so you can check everything. Make sure the dealership is doing this.

Sounds like mine. I had the sub-frame looked at 2x by BMW and once for good measure from my mechanic when i had my RR trailing arms/bushings, wishbone, and other stuff done. Every little bump makes this awful noise EXCEPT if I'm on the brakes. Stumped. OP if you figure this shenanigans out... do tell us.

Edit: Let me tell you what i have checked so we can skip those replies.
Brake dust shield: secure and tight.
Brake calipers:tightened to specs.
Sub-frame: Checked 3 times. no tears.
Rear shock top mount:Not too bad... But the noise is not in the trunk area
Left TAB's: good
Left Rear spring: not snapped.
OP check all of the above and see if you cant kill that noise.

maybe a strut mount? If its blown that can make a lot of noise, and its not something that can be seen under the car. I had one that completely destroyed. It wasn't holding the strut at all so any little bump the strut moved around creating a lot of noise. Doesn't hurt to take the rear carpeting out and inspect it. I would think with an 02 the subframe is not likely but I guess still a possibility. Good luck!

broken spring maybe. i read several threads on here where the spring was broken about an inch or so from the end. you can't see it unless you take the spring out. doesn't change the ride height or performance much, but makes noise over bumps.

first, you haven't missed out on the free subframe inspection/fix. it goes atleast through early Oct. either way set up an appointment. but i really don't think that is it.
i'm leaning more towards the rear shock mount before that.
it could be any of the above.
it could also be the bushing for the fuel tank strap. see my post here

On a brighter note, I installed my M3 spoiler lip the other day, and I love it!

have them check that bushing in my thread. if broken it will cause noise and hard to track, but easy to inspect when up.

Some are more obvious by the amount of tearing and damage. others are hidden by the mounting bushing and can only be seen when it's dropped some to see the metal that's hidden. all depends on how severe.

Rear shocks are out, as well as the mounts. The subframe looks great. My oil filter housing is also leaking (?). Also, my fan belts are worn out.

Buy the oil filter housing gasket $8. Will solve the leaking problem.

Good good on the subframe part. Did you check the rear shock mounts? They can go bad and crack the shock tower. Did you check the springs as well? I'm curious what the noise is.

I'm hearing similar noises on my 2000 318i, less than 100,000km. I'm planning on having a lot look at the mounts. What's the cost like to repair/replace sub-frame?
