Clean My Engine today Word of advice!!!!
As the post Below talks about cleaning the engine bay I took heed to all Precautions, Vinny gave some good info on covering up certain parts (Which I did W/ Aluminum Foil), the problem came when I put the Damn Degreaser on MY NICE STEELBLUE Painted Valve Covers......
DON'T do this learn from me, if you have painted valve Covers Spray Everything but these. I now have All theses Very visible Runny Soap Scum marks I CAN't get off that came from the degreaser.. , good thing is I painted my covers my self so I just have to order the Paint Again and go for it. Besides that I love the way my engine look, My engine was not really Dirty so I did not use a Whole can of WD-40 not even half. Here Are Some Pics, What do you guys think? Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Jake...
Glad to see your engine bay nice and clean. Sorry to hear about the damage to your painted engine covers. Try this before you repaint...use an eraser (Stanford Artgum is very soft) and see if that takes out the soap scum. Or you could try some Claybar...Autozone has a kit for around $10 I believe.
Good Luck! |

Darn, maybe I can do my side moldings with an order of this custom paint. Hmmm.
But yeah, good tip on the painted valve cover.

What are you supposed to cover? I sprayed engine bright (which looked like it had oil in it too, form the design in the puddles) on the paint and everything else, but I sprayed it off quickly and dried with no problems...
what intake is that?

Bav,
Thats the Jim C Intake, you need to cover the ECU, back Right Corner, the DSC Back Left corner and your Light Assembley Housing alonh with the auto Xenon leveler. Do this with Aluminum Foil. |

Just got back from buying that Gunk Engine Brite Degreaser. I will be doing this Monday - as I will be washing my car tonight. We're still in a water restriction mode, eek!

Doesn't a coat of WD40 leave the engine bay real greasy and because of this, won't dirt and dust stick to everything after a while?

According to Vinnymac:
"You can also use Pledge furniture cleaner as a substitute for the WD-40."

let us know how the shine holds up after a couple weeks...i'd like to know whether the WD-40 will collect more dust in a few weeks than the engine did without it.....nice job!

Hijacking the thread a bit (but dealing with the painted covers):
Jake, how did you take off the covers to get it painted? Is there a DIY to take it off? And can any high heat paint do the job? Or does it have to be a specialized kind of paint? Thanks. Return to original thread now.
