Options for Stereo in a '00 323i with Factory Nav?

I was exploring options for my Daughter's car.

Has the Factory Nav. Don't believe it's the Harman Kardon (no labels on speakers). Think I found the Map unit in the trunk at one point, but don't recall seeing a CD player there.

She either listens to the radio or has a 'fake' tape that she plug the headphone jack in her Iphone into..but it's got terrible sound.

I checked Crutchfield, but they don't list a dash kit for her car...so I'm assuming it's not a standard 'fit'.

What options would she have to get a different stereo (or, upgrade reasonably cheaply)?

Thanks!

Thanks....however

That's about 1/3 of what her car cost....was looking for a bit more basic (cheaper) options.....it looks great though.

What exactly do you want the new head unit to do? I get from your initial post that she wants to interface her iPhone with the head unit. Does she want/need navigation?

I have a 2001 330Ci. The audio set up in our cars is basically the same, except your daughter's car has nav. There are adapters that allow you to interface your iPhone with the head unit. These adapters use the audio CD changer cables in the trunk to interface with the head unit. These cables are not the cables that the nav unit uses to interface with the head unit! DICE Mediabridge is one model. If I remember correctly, your daughter's audio system has the "guts" in the trunk (left side behind the carpet liner). The head unit is merely for control and display.

I installed my DICE interface device over 10 years ago. I use Google Maps for my nav. The voice guidance plays over the car's audio system. It interrupts the music when doing so.

All E46s built for the USA market are wired for an audio CD changer, btw.

Thanks!

Doesn't need the nav. Wasn't aware of the way to connect....that might work the best for her..leave the factory unit & connect from outside..

Looked up the Dice unit..

Looks like it would work well for what she needs. I take it if I buy the (now Audiovox) Mediabridge for the BMW, it will come with the necessary cables?

Thanks!

It should come with cables to connect to the CD changer connectors and a cable that connects to a smartphone. You'll need to buy a lightning adapter as the only thing that comes out of the Lightning socket an iPhone 5 and newer is digital. The Lightning adapter has digital to analog converters.

Having seen the video on installation...it looks like the Aux and 30 pin wires are quite long also. If they are long enough (and there's no good reason against it)...could the Media Bridge be installed in the trunk (where the CD changer would go) and run the AUX and and 30pin apple cables under the 'hump' and into the console?
