The recent grads earning salaries on the lower end of the spectrum are usually from judicial clerkships.
I've looked on Craigslists a few months back and saw several firms offering around $50k-$60k for
attorneys WITH EXPERIENCE.
Doesn't sound like much of an investment in this state of the economy to go to law school,
and I am wondering how things will turn out once the economy recovers.

yea, it almost defies logic for this bimodal distribution of salaries (60k and 160k in the large labor markets) . however, supply and demand is dispositive in determining the wages, kinda like how a nurse (BS in nursing) starts out at 70k approx while someone with a masters in tax takes 2 to 3 years to make that much in the same market

All about supply and demand.

lol what about those who had engineering degrees and went to law school and specialized in intellectual property?

IMO, I wouldn't recommend anyone go to law school unless 1) they have a job lined up afterwards or 2) get into a T14 school.

The market still pays, but its just much more competitive and grads can't waltz into a job like they used to. There is always demand for good lawyers...

M'eh. I think it's like any industry...there are shady ones and good ones. Typically the shady ones create a negative image for the majority.

I'm just going by what my first-grade teacher taught me about counting by twos. I haven't learned much math since then, so I'm not the most reliable source for such things.

I'm with Dave on this. "counting by two" means 2,4,6,8, because your first number shouldn't be "1."

Man...I'm going to law school and I even know there are too many lawyers. But, I do have a guaranteed job lined up out of school. All I have to do is "pass the bar"...

And yes, you can be a lawyer and not be practicing law...it's called being a consultant. Many do it.
