E30 m3
Ok, so I am looking at E30 M3's for sale and I found two that caught my eyes.
One is a 1988 with 155,000 miles for 11k. Pros -Beautiful Car -Good Shape -Only 54k on the engine Cons -Painted Ferrari Yellow (Incorrect color) -Engine from a 1990 M3 (VIN Will never match again so if I kept it long enough to ever go to a classics auction there goes some value) -M5 Replica wheels The other is a 1990 with 127,780 miles for 10k Pros -5k on rebuilt engine Cons -Roll Cage -Racing Seat -Lots of mods -Needs paint desperately Honestly I think the 88 is a better deal since it isn't highly molested and doesnt appear to have been beaten up on out on the track, it also pretty much ready to go now even though the paint color isnt original. What do you guys think?

First of all I think that E30 M3 is the best and most beautiful BMW ever made.
I also think that you should pass both of them. Reason why is that the first one appears to be owned by non-enthusiast and the second one appears to be beaten up(roll cage and need of paint , most likely from countless laps behind another car) I have no Idea what E30 M3s cost where you live, so I cant comment on prices. BTW, '89 is the best year to by an E30 M3 (there are countless reasons why its is the best year, over at S14.net)

I too would pass on both. Damn I love the e30. My wife just got a zhp, but there is something about the basic, raw, e30.

First off, are you a member on s14.net? It is an extraordinary group of M3 enthusiasts that are in great position to give you advise. Watch the cars being sold there so you can build up knowledge on what you would expect to spend on a car that you want. I looked for mine for 2 years, it was a worthwhile wait.
Be careful choosing your car, the cosmetics are going to be the least of your worries, if you get stuck with a neglected example the cost will go through the roof. here are few shots of my toy: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/album.php?albumid=1777

I would definitely pass over both. First one sounds like the owner didn't know what he was doing with it. The second sounds like you're going to have to turn a track car into a livable street car. Either one of those is going to cost you a lot of $$$ to get into decent shape.

I believe the "rule" on E30 M3s is 20K. You either buy one in good shape for 20K or get one for less and spend on the repairs it needs.
