make sure to get an 850csi, not an 850i, if you have the chance.

Pay cash for it and use the rest for maintenance and preventive maintenance.

You are a very lucky man! I remember seeing a 8 series for the first time soon after they were released. Boston Green 850ci. I was massively into *** turbo cars at the time, but I remember promising myself at that moment that I would own one of these some day. One of the local BMW enthusiasts has a silver 850csi, a real beaut and it turns heads all the time!

My buddy has one and he let me drive it, the only thing i didnt like was how long the front of the car was, thats just me. Personally it felt really comfortable and over all had alot of torque. They are fun to drive.

bmw e31
i use to have bmw 850CSI 6 speed manual in europe. what can i say... in total car is nice i like it a lot, gas guzzler, lot of torque, acceleration??? not good at all, also had e39 540 and till 200 km/h 540 was faster, e31 is a highway car, made for German autobahns. if you will decide to buy one, check for hydraulic suspension leaks (very common problem), engine oil leak, check the rear bumper for oil burn signs, rev the engine check for blue smoke (v12 engines very well known for oil burn). there was one option i loved on that car: Rear Wheel Steering (AHK - Aktive Hinterachs-Kinematik) which makes super good handling on high speed (check if car has one) that was extra 17K deutsche mark as option on CI models. there is lot of other thinks, but im not going to write i book now, so if you need any help let me know. Alex

I'm in - always wanted one, one came up for sale locally and I couldn't not get it...
93 850Ci, 150K miles, automatic, clean and original, but like any 8er with this many miles it's going to be a bit of a project. I've been lurking the 8 chatter on bimmerforums for years so I have an idea what I'm getting into. But it's going to be a bit of a "collectible" - I already have 2 other non-daily-drivers that only get like 1000 miles a year each, so I hope it's not an endless project to just enjoy it as an occasional cruiser. Man, it's so beautiful, I just keep going out to my garage to look at it..... one of the most handsome cars ever in my opinion.

My dad has an 850i. He hasn't even drove it in the past 3-4 years, just throwing money into it trying to get it some sort of reliable driving condition again. As soon as something is fixed, something else always breaks.
