Check out Hertz Audio. Great speakers! You can really push the speakers with very clear sound. Well worth the money. I have the Hi Energy HSK-165 in the front and HCX-165 in the rear. http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/default_en.htm

how much money are you willing to spend?

you could easily spend several times the value of your car working on a burmester system.

It'll be better than pretty much anything else you could put together. You'd also probably want a lot of upgrade to your car in order to make proper use of the sound system, too.

Check this list of Rainbow speakers. Well built and they are designed to work with all E46 factory stereos and headunit, so you keep steering controls and i-bus functions http://shop.ebay.de/?_from=R40&_trks...All-Categories

I have CDT Audio component system front (6.5") and MB-Quart 3-way (6.5") at the rear deck and I am very happy with them. They are paired with a 10" ED sub in the trunk

I have CDT's 6.5" components both front and rear. The silk tweeters are not as harsh as MB Quartz and not as soft as Dynaudio giving really good response for the high end. The woofers seem to work the best down to 100 Hz,but lower than that the response trails off pretty quickly. So, a subwoofer would be really good to fill in on the low end, but that is pretty much a given (at least in my opinion) no matter what speakers you install in the doors/rear panel.

I like Rainbow and MB Quart but really like Focal as I have in my car. My suggestion is to consider the total amount of money you are willing to spend. Really nice speakers won't sound really good without additional amplifiers and that won't sound really good without sub(s). I don't listen to rap but love good solid bass with rock, country, and some techno. The cost of good gear adds up quickly and if you only get a couple parts the system suffers. I chose not to change the look and have the original HU and speaker grills. Also, don't forget wires, connectors, sub control, etc. Allocate a few extra bucks for these itemms. Additionally, if you want to play your ipod through your system you'll need an additional component (DICE) for that. And, sorry to add to the draining of your checkbook...you may want a good alarm system. I highly recommend Autopage with remote start and tilt & glass breakage sensors. My subs are mounted in a custom enclosure in the trunk. You also need to consider what space you are willing to give up for sub(s). I have a half trunk now. Sound systems are like women. Do you like trashy, elegant, rough & tough, sensitive, etc. There are many good components out there but a big rack doesn't make the woman. Get it?
