i replaced the 6 hose clamps with new ones and the little pieces of rubber fuel line too.

I just used a cutting wheel and cut the 3 clamps and a razor blade to cut the tube off instead of trying to pull it off.

The diy was great..but there is some fine tweking that could be done...
I turned my car several times after i removed the fuse.....
when i removed the foward line it popped in my face- spraying gas ALL OVER!
I had eye protection on-
I had ventallation-
it was very alarming!
I would also note that after I removed the filter the rear line was stil dripping fuel out!
I immediately set up the new fuel filter and hooked it up immediately to the rear line...

Does autozone or advanceautoparts carry an equivalent fuel hose that attaches to the filter (part #13537563456)? Has anyone used anything but oem fuel hose?

Yes they carry these hoses.
You should be fine using 5/16" (Inner Diameter) Fuel Line Hose for Fuel Injection Systems.

These are rated to a certain PSI, designed to resist internal weakening from fuel blends and external oils/grease/etc., braided for reinforcement and should be covered to resist temperature/weather extremes. These are available in packaged 18" lengths of which you only need about half (cut to measure from your old hoses).

I would replace clamps as well if yours are a little rusty, there are 6 total clamps (2 for each hose) for the fuel filter.

i was actually surprised that bmw didn't use a proper fuel hose clamp on these, and these were pain in the ass. not sure if this has been replaced before by previous owners.

i had some 5/16th fuel injection hose laying around, i cut similar strips and used better clamps, not the worm kind:

I just changed mine yesterday. What a PITA! What made it difficult was that even though the car was on all 4 jack stands, I didn't have a lot of room to work. But it's done now and I won't have to do that again for a while. I had also just finnished changing all the drive train fluids.

Mechanicaly speaking it is simple. It's just that the hoses are hard to get loose and room to move your arms and hands to work on it, even though the car is on jack stands is limited.
