Am I missing something?

OK so sorry bout the messy post prior to this edit,

I am having a problem with my cluster (the little screen with the clock/temp stuff in perticular), I searched this forum for a few different things but I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. A few weeks ago I took my cluster apart to install guage rings, plugged it in, the cluster makes a bucha noise like it's transforming, and the screen went blank (showing --:-- where my temp shows). I drove 12 km and it beeped and everything worked again.

So, yesterday I took it apart again and the same thing happened (--:--), but this time, so far, I've driven 40km and it's still blank... Is thier some kinda code I have to put in? Do I need a genie and three wishes? What am I missing?

e46_nate,

Perhaps you should just post a video of your cluster symptoms.. instead of trying to verbally describe it.

Also, did you try the BMW instrument cluster diagnostics/test? (See below Link)

If it started working, why did you take it apart again?
