You should read up on the requirements for your state (training time, shooting proficiency, process, etc.). In most states it is going to require a lot more than simply filling out a piece of paper and getting approved on the spot.
Additionally, I would recommend doing a lot of shooting before you actually carry. I didn't like that advice when someone told me the first time (old time shooter who knew better), but it is very wise to have tons of rounds down range and be comfortable with your firearm platform before ever carrying. Make sure to invest in proper carry gear too, not this gun show or uncle mike's crap.

Tell them you want to carry your gun into bars, and keep your self safe after a long night of partying.

Alright I should have added I am going to a class for all of this as well. I'm not just walking in. Four of my coworkers suggested I go with them to this so I figured it wasn't going to be a quick process. I will read up on all of it as well just to make sure I have a good idea of what's going on before hand.

Good idea. It's best to familiarize yourself with the firearm the best you can and invest in a good quality holster (CompTac Minotaur, Crossbreed Supertuck, Galco King Tuk, etc.).

What kind of gun will you be carrying? You need to practice with that one quite a bit.

While this may be true. I feel the sense of security far over powers that thought and I want it primarily if I travel since I have been doing quite of bit of traveling with my sister before I graduate. I obviously can't have it on campus where I spend about 90% of my time.

SMH, I have family there to.

Go to Alabama, can get one in 5 minutes, literally. Don't even have to show ID, just fill out the background check sheet.

Tennessee it's an 8 hour course.

The class that I am taking doesn't require us to have a gun prior and I currently do not own a hand gun. I have just used my dads rifles. I plan on purchasing one after I go through the class because I'd rather be informed about what I should look for in purchasing a gun rather then just buying a random one. I plan to take my time through this process so I don't rush and make the wrong decision. I hope that makes sense? I'm an engineering student so I'm very anal about the way I go about doing things and this class is going to be my starting point.

Edit: you guys have to realize I am only 21 so this is going to be a slow process for me.
