E46 325xiT MPG and torque convertor

Good day everyone.

I have e46 325xiT and recently I had long trip basically for 400 miles with average speed on 50-55mph I had just 26 MPG. If I do the same trip on my friends car which is just sedan e46 325xi, than we get almost 30 MPG

Dear xit owners, what would you expect as MPG? I do believe that I am getting lower numbers and I suspect it might be problems with the torque convertor. My car in drive when I let the brake go moves forward very slowly, while my friend's sedan has much more power doing it. I can feel the difference.

For information, no CEL, new air filter new O2 sensors, standard sport packet 17" wheels, new engine oil, new transmission oil and torque convertor solenoid.

Thanks!

How many miles, have you changed the spark plugs out? No rough idle or anything out of the ordinary? What tires are on your car? The sedan will get slightly better mileage than the touring but with an average speed of ~55mph you should be getting MORE than 30mpg no problem. My, well not mine anymore, 330xi did 37mpg (fvck you Prius) while averaging 65mph for 300 miles but that was a manual with a 6th gear.

this is exactly my point man! on my old e34 I would get 30+ no problems.

the car is 130k and I did not do spark plugs, it is next on my list. Car is not having any problems no rough idle, just this low MPG and little slow if I let the brake go from the stop.

Tires are basically new (forgot the brand) properly inflated.

All MPG calculated from really tank/mileage not from the computer and got new cooling system and fan clutch is not locked up . I am running out of ideas for low MPG

I like the car I like the drive, but this MPG puts me down ***61516;

Replace the plugs, don't worry about the letting the brake go.

Are you running the AC? Also, you are on winter gas if you're in a cold area. That will significantly impact your mileage. Also, replace the TC and diff fluid as that will help too.

Wow, I was getting that mileage at 80-90mph over a few thousand miles. Interested to see if a spark plug change would help you that much though.

It also might be the wagon is heavier and less aerodynamic.

Edit. A roof rack or roof bars can be like 2 mpg difference on just the tourings
