I always use the nylon ones from auto parts store. The screws are a little longer but not much. Enough to keep pressure on plate against car so it does not vibrate when bassed out, plus come with Crome or black covers so it hides the screw, just neater looking and cheap.

BMW recommends OEM license plate screws. I believe there was a warning about trunk failures from non BMW- approved screws.
