phoenix yellow question

Okay so im looking at a E46 M3 and decided I want yellow lol dont ask. I noticed in pictures online that the 01-03 yellow looks metallic and 04-05 looks more just gloss color. My question is did the paint change on the E46 M3 over the years for that color. The only way im buying on is if its metallic yellow. Thanks in advance.

Of the top of my head, I don't know the specific build period, but Phoenix Yellow was part of the standard color palate on the M3.
I think it was the first three years that it was offered...

Dakar Yellow wasn't a normal option... It falls under the BMW Individual list.
Here in the US, dealers didn't readily offer Individual for the E46 M3.
That's not to say you couldn't have ordered a Dakar Yellow as an Individual option, but you kind of had to jump through hoops to get it...

(From previously inquires, I've found that it's got more to do with the way the way US dealers have to navigate financial transactions, then their actual willingness to carry Individual options on the full line... BMW USA does seem to be more then happy to allow a customer to get those options provided that you're paying for the full cost of the vehicle in advance. >>> but after all, how many of us can really do that...)

Anyway, Dakar Yellow was more readily available on the E36 and the Z3...
There have been some factory examples of Dakar Yellow E46's that turned up in the US, so if you've legitimately found one of those, as opposed to a resprayed car, then you've come across a pretty seldom seen option... You've got to check the placard under then hood though to confirm that though.

I agree with Jerseyfresh....Phoenix yellow was a standard offering for several years (not sure which ones). Dakar was an individual color on the E46 M3.

If you can find one of those, it's a rare car.

I would just buy it if i saw it in person but ES motorsports near me has one with 28k but its damn smg like they made the cars for gayness. My ex gf has a smg m3 and i hate that trans with a passion or id be all over it 28k 04 for $23

You wouldn't be interested in trading you car for a fully built Evo 8 would ya

Id stay away from ES motorsports. I had a shady run in with them when I was test driving M3s. They had a nice IR there, and when I drove down to see it, I looked closely at the paint and saw overlap and drips in some spots. The dealer was very shady about it, so I walked, plus there was no maintenance records with it.

Haha, I just got the M, and im loving it for now, so nothing planned to get rid of it yet. The modding has just begun too.

Check the classified sections of the M3Forums.net too

FYI keep your eyes on the DC area, thats where I found mine from a private seller. Theres a few more in that area....

Thanks for the advice But I feel as a previous car sales man Its really luck of the draw I dont feel es motor sports are bad people just from other peoples experiences couple friends have bought cars their. But I looked on autotrader and this guy in MO wouldnt take more pictures of his car nore send me a carfax before i came 600 miles to see the car he had 3 pictures 2 outside one of the seat. He was a dealer too. He told me he would not send me pictures and bullshitted me on the Carfax so i wrote a nasty review on him.

I have to agree with Bimmerfan08- when looking for my 545i I looked at a Black 540i they had in stock however the sales guys were arrogant and then when I was searching online I came across this:
http://maps.google.com/maps/place?hl...ed=0CCoQqgUwAw

Not to mention numerous other threads online about them so now that my brother's looking for a BMW- I made sure to warn him about that place.. not just my 2 cents..many others agree
