Post Your guys honest opinion on xenon intensity.

Alright guys before you decide to blow up and say search and , I just wanted to know what you guys preferred on your xenon lights. I'm in the market for some new bulbs and I really like the bright white look with a hint of blue. What do you guys like? What gives out the best color? 6k,7k,8k? etc.. Anyone else think purple looks fu**en hideous?

I'm more concerned with visibility at night - 6K is closer to daylight.

OEM HID bulbs are 4300K Phillips bulbs...

Personally, I like the 6000K pure white replacements.
Bimmian has them for $99, along with matching plug-n-play HID kits for the fogs.

I just like the OEM look. 4300k-5000k is perfect for me. The Retrofit Source has OEM Phillips 4300k bulbs for $85 I think (pair). Those are the brighter versions of the OEM ones too. That's probably what I will end up getting in the summer.

The higher the kelvin, the lower the lumen output. That said, 4300-4500K is closest to natural sunlight and the brightest. This is why OEM BMW headlights are this color.

khoalty, no name brand. Id buy a good brand, these bulbs are slightly different in color (one is pure white, other is 95% white a 5% blue tint), plus they dont seat correctly on the bulb securing cap thing.

I recommend 6000k, it's a nice upgrade over the factory 4300k yellow output and does not sacrifice too much light output. IMO, the 8000k is too aqua and does noticeably decrease usable light on the road.

You should stick to 4300K or 5000K. Philips makes (or made?) a replacement bulb called the "Color Matched" or 85122CM bulb which is supposed to be closer to a 5000K bulb. This option is available for lazy car owners who want to change out only 1 xenon bulb, but does not want their lights to be mismatching in color. Another thing to consider is that although a bulb is sold as a 4300K bulb, it will eventually colorshift to a bluer color, near 5000K. Aftermarket bulbs will tend to either colorshift faster, colorshift unevenly, or catastrophically fail.

The latest and greatest bulb offering from Osram is the 66240CBI or Cool Blue Intense. These are extremely rare and expensive since they just recently hit the market. They are marketed as a 5000K bulb that is whiter and brighter than all other OEM offerings. From initial reviews over at HIDPlanet.com, it seems that Osram is marketing these bulbs 100% correctly. They are a cool white color with a hint of blue, but with the intensity of the brightest of xenon bulbs.
