i bought my first bimmer when i was 15, i didnt even have a license yet... it was a huge project, car was trashed... it was a 94 325i 4d, Jet Black 5 Spd... engine swapped it to 328 engine, headers, exhaust, chip, intake, suspension, brakes, wheels, m3 front bumper, full new paint... i worked on it for abour 3 months, i got it done 3 weeks after i got my license ... yes i bought it myself and i worked on it with my dad at our shop... bought the car for a well earned $3000 and put about $6000 of mods back into it... came out pretty nice, sold it for $11,000 so it wasnt too shabby... my first car , kinda miss her now

Hmmm...
17 - 1985 E30 318i, 310,000miles. It was a beater bought to replace my wrecked '83 Buick Skylark, but like golf I was now hooked on BMW. Seat covers, blown speakers (I replaced with Wal-Mart Sony's,lol!!)
21 - 1988 E30 328iS Eurosport 153,000miles/ After 2 Mazda's (and a wicked time with my FC3S RX-7!), bought this fun one brought back to the US by a guy in the Air Force. Has some Euro goodies no other US E30 had. Added K&N, and Scorpion Catback (see sig). Just had clutch, suspension, brakes, engine tuning and runs like an animal! Left it with parents to sell when I moved...but they love it so much they might not, lol!
26 - 1999 E46 328i - Skipped the E36, too many around where I grew up. Almost bought a silver '01 330i, but "hated" the steering so much. Added Dinan CAI/S2 software, Eclipse 12" sub & Eclipse amp, UUC exhaust next year (when snow & salt go away), and suspension work. Loving my 328i and will have fun modding it in time!

Hi Kids,

This has been an interesting and often amusing thread. I bought my first BMW a few months ago at age 56!

I've enjoyed cars for a long time and have admired BMW's since they first arrived in America when I was in high school. I remember when the first BMW 1600 sedans (predecesor to the 2002ti) were imported in the late sixties. It was about that time that I bought my first car using money saved from summer and after-school jobs. That car, a 1965 model purchased used in 1968 for $875, was a pretty red coupe, had a rear mounted, 2.7 liter, air-cooled flat six with dual exhausts, 4 wheel independent suspension, and "four on the floor." I modified it with performance exhaust system, ignition system upgrade, instrumentation and interior upgrades, custom wheels, and a single 4 barrel carburetor replacing the original twin carbs. I thought it was pretty neat at the time and still do. Who here can identify the car?

Other memorable cars included a 1967 VW microbus (the original "minivan", purchased used in 1971 to carry my dirt bike) and a red 1975 VW Scirocco purchased new. I also enjoyed a series of motocycles, the first one a Honda CL-350 purchased new in 1970 when I was 21.

More memorable than my first car was my first airplane, a 1946 Aeronca Champ purchased in 1984. I'm now restoring my second airplane, a 1948 Stinson purchased in 1986 and flown for about 10 years before restoraton began, while I fly my third airplane, a 1946 Aeronca Chief purchased in 1999.

I am pleased to see so many young enthusiasts here who recognize and appreciate quality. BMW's are outstanding cars and many of you are very fortunate to drive them at such young ages. Have fun! Just be sure to keep things in perspective. Cool cars are, well, cool. But there is much more to life: Education, family, self-reliance, meaningful work, and respect and compassion for others.

Enjoy your cars and be safe and careful out there on the roads!

John
