Automatic trans fluid change ?
Hello I have been searching and found some but not enough info maybe you guys can help. I have an 04 325i with 95k and just purchased. Was always dealer serviced and don't believe they ever changed the tranny fluid BMW says it's lifetime. Should I change it ? And if I do I would do a filter and some say to change the bolts too ?? Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks!

I'm pretty positive you're supposed to change this every 30k. I had my clutch replaced about a month ago and my mechanic changed my ATF for me. Wouldn't hurt to change it, that's for sure.

The "Life Time" fluid needs to be changed at 100,000 miles, but I would not wait that long. When you change it, change everything... Fluid, Filter, Gasket.
Do a complete change 2 times to make sure most of the old fluid is out of the tranny. Get the filter and gasket from the dealer. The fluid can be aftermarket. I used Valvoline Max Life Synthetic in mine. Last edited by Mark T.; 01-10-2011 at 07:43 PM. |
