Thermostat code P0128 won't go away

'02 330xi getting "P0128: Range/Performance Problem In Thermostat ".... I have been throwing this code for some time now. I had a brand new thermostat put in the car, not even a year old, yet I am still throwing this code. It went away for maybe a week and a half after the thermostat replacement and it came back. Replaced with genuine BMW thermostat. Car runs fine, I kind of put it on the back burner but now I want that code to go away. What would cause that code to come back when there is a brand new thermostat in?

The code reads, "Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)."

What brand of thermostat was installed? Who installed it? Is the electrical connector connected to the thermostat?

Google "BMW E46 hidden OBD functions." Test #7 will show the coolant temperature as seen by the ECU. After a few miles of driving it should show a temperature in the 95*C to 100*C range. If it's low the thermostat is bad. Whaler is the correct brand of thermostat. Try fcpeuro for a new thermostat.

Your new thermostat is bad.
