New Car/Trade-in Advise at Dealership

Hey guys! My dad decided to trade in his X5 and I'm actually typing this before I run out the door with him. I'm going to a dealership in SoCal and wondering what kind of things I should ask for when getting a new/user car from the dealership (ie: extended warranties, etc) and what I should look out for if you guys have the advise?

Dealerships have tons of overpriced add-ons to sell you. Don't go for it. Asking about all that stuff will just indicate you aren't familiar with the car buying process.

Preferably, the only thing you should buy from the dealer is the car, and don't muck up negotiating the price by throwing in a bunch of other stuff that is harder to value.

Considering that most dealers in California charges 200+ per hour for labour I would consider an extended warranty. Of course there are a plethora of Indy shops but there is something quite convenient about the extended warranty with the dealership.

I always go to carsdirect.com to get an idea of what I should pay for the car with the options I want. They never have that exact car, but it gets you pretty close.

The extended warranty was.. I'm not sure if it would be worth it, considering it's in pretty good shape and I think they were asking for nearly 3000.
