Has your jack broke on you?

So I was jacking up the car on a flat surface.. I made sure the foot of the jack was straight/leveled and the white piece fitted onto the cars part where it is suppose to go, under the side skirt area. As I was jacking up, the jack made a sound and broke! It dropped the car and when I looked at the jack, the white portion that attaches to the car snapped on the side! Just wondering if this has happen to anyone...

yikes...

i never trusted that thing to begin with. i guess im used to a more simple design. i've had 1 flat tire but i used that "inflate a tire in a can thing" and it works GREAT. lol

Yup, jacked up the car to change a flat and use my spare tire, while putting the new one on, the jack failed, fell on the rotor and almost landed on my foot. Obviously I was more concerned on my rotor rather than what could have been my newly found club foot lol...

Car eventually was fine, no real damage, but that jack is a piece...

The tire was alllmost off the ground when we noticed the jack was starting to go up sideways!! (The bottom was twisted?!?) And we were on flat surface!

Are you guys talking about the stock jack that comes with the car or an actual jack? The spare jack is really just meant for emergencies

^^ that's a good question... only who would really want to deal with the hassle of suing BMW... It would surely be more expensive than replacing a side skirt...

wow all these stories! I thought I was just having bad luck. The car fell down but good thing the tire was still on it. I cant imagine what would happen if it was on the rotors. Could BMW replace it? Im still under warranty, not sure if that would matter haha.

last winter after i dropped the tranny in the E30 doing burnouts/donuts in 10 degree weather my dad went to jack it up in the school lot, didnt secure our floor jack under the car well enough and when the car was about 8 inches off the ground it fell off the jack. Got a huge gash in my door down to the bare metal, i was pissed. She is all better now though.

Here's a picture of my jack after it dropped my car.

Luckily the wheels were still on. The jack fell on it's side and did a number on the front brake air ducts. It also bent my passenger control arm pretty good, but thats exactly what I was attempting to replace at the time

Thats why you don't loosen the lugs all the way before it's secure on stands.

Is it better to get a replacement jack from the dealer, or purchased a different one?
