New Speakers with Business Cassette unit - Great results!

Hi Everyone,

I just had new speakers and iPod interface installed on my '01 330ci, while keeping the stock Business Cassette unit, and wanted to let you know about the results.

I had asked previously if it was worth it to just install new speakers while keeping the Business Cassette unit in this thread, and even though the replies I recevied weren't too encouraging, I decided to go ahead and do it.

Speakers
Front: Kicker KS Series 60 Coaxials.
Rear: Kicker KS Series 6.2 Components. Also kept the original tweeters that go in the rear side panels.

iPod Interface
DICE Silverline DUO from Turner Motorsports ($139).

Installation was done by a professional shop regarded as the best in town.

First of all, I couldn't be happier with the results. The sound quality was a night and day improvement compared with the stock setup. It sounds so good that I'm now doubting about installing an amp, subwoofer and equalizer sometime later on. I am fully aware that installing those things will make a dramatic improvement, but keep in mind I just wanted improved sound quality. I don't have any desire to win any car audio contests.

There was no cutting, modifying or anything like that required to install the speakers or iPod interface, besides some clips required to screw the speakers onto the existing holes (pic below).

The iPod interface also works as advertised. I am able to control the iPod from the stock radio unit (also from the steering wheel buttons), and the song title and artist display correctly. The iPod cable was installed inside the glovebox.
The only "downside" is that you have to press the button twice to change to the next song (big deal).

The installation and the speakers cost me around $350 dollars, which is not bad AT ALL considering taxes are beyond ridiculous here. To give you an idea, my car costs around $38K plus I have to pay $1400 a year on road tax.

So if you don't want to spend a ton of money to modernize and improve your crappy Business Cassette stock sound system, I highly recommend to do what I did. You will not regret it!

Yes they do! No cutting, drilling or anything like that required.

trujo, I DONT want to sound like a dick but your oem speakers had to be dead if your KICKER coaxials in the front and components sound better than stock

Look, it does not make sense to put coaxial in the front in that car, the woofer is by your fu**en legs...your fingers listen to tweeters....WHERE they should be near your head and pointing at your ears...

Components in the back...thats a lil better...but you said you left stock ping pong ass tweets and added an extra pair of kickers...probably pointing at your head from behind...great....

Powered by stock amp....eghhh

pointless to write anything else...

This setup is stupid...its like putting 1.6 I4 to a Ford 150...lol wasted money.

Enjoy your car Amigo!

I honestly don't care what you think. If you could hear the difference in MY car you would eat those words.

Everybody that has listened to the new setup immediately asks me what kind of amp I am using...

Besides, I love the way it is right now and I hated how it was before. Isn't it what it's all about?

BTW, you did sound like a dick.

Personally I have the OEM HK system and to me its one of the worst HK systems put in a car.

It is an upgrade from the normal speakers found on a basic system. What always counts is what your ears like.

I will be selling my HK system in the future to install my equipment i have waiting to go in.
